| OK, done that for Standard. It made the date/time valid and I still
| can't change the attributes.
| The scan also found some invalid dates for a dozen other files
| (entirely unrelated folders on the same partition.
| I haven't got the time tonight to do a thorough scan. It's a 6 GB
| partition. The drive is a Maxtor 6L020J1 (20 GB, bought new in 2001)
It won't hurt to do a Thorough scan, but the Standard was sufficient it
seems to fix the dates. Thanks for that feedback. Too bad that wasn't
the cure for the inability to change its attributes. But ensure the
Thorough scan does not constantly restart. If it does, cancel it & post
back for a cure.
|>Now-- try again. Can you uncheck Read-Only & delete the file?
| No, can't uncheck read-only.
Have you tried it in DOS. Try it first in Windows DOS (in a box). If
that fails, you must boot to True DOS & do it there...
(1) "START, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt"
(2) DIR E:\*.pri /s
Thus...
C:\>DIR E:\*.pri /s
Directory of E:\TEMP
E--APPRO PRI 0 02-27-08 9:08p E--APPRO.PRI
1 file(s) 0 bytes
NOTE: Use the Mark button, outline text with mouse, & Copy
button to post what you get. Post the results of the
following too.
(3) ATTRIB E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
That shows current attributes. Use the directory that
showed up in step (2). Thus...
C:\>ATTRIB E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
A R E--APPRO.PRI E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
(4) ATTRIB -A -R E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
Use the minus sign to remove the attributes you see. Thus...
C:\>ATTRIB -A -R E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
There is no feedback for that one, but it gets done.
(5) ATTRIB E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
Show the attributes again. Thus...
C:\>ATTRIB E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
E--APPRO.PRI E:\TEMP\E--APPRO.PRI
Post your results. If it fails, you must be sent to True DOS for it.
| Some of this HDD's SMART data (from DiskCheckup V2.0):
| Raw read error rate 0
| Raw UltraDMA CRC Error Count 0
| Raw reallocated sector count 0
| Start/Stop count 2553
| Power cycle count 1354
| Power On Time 20552
| (equiv to 8 hours mean duration of power-up or woken-up periods and 15
| hours per powered-up period)
That looks very good to me. I think the hard drive itself is fine.
