| I have Windows 98 Second edition. I made no changes to my computer in the
| recent past. All of the sudden, when I boot up I get this message
"Windows
| Protection Error." It suggests that I open in safe mode. I am able to do
| that. What do I have to do to get rid of this problem and start using my
| computer in the normal mode? Thanks.
Post the exact error message.
Potential diagnosis:
Restart the computer, but immediately after POST, start pressing the F8 key
to bring up the Boot Menu, choose create a Boot log.
Windows will attempt to start in Normal mode. If it fails again, reboot to
DOS only or Safe Mode [using the above], ensure you can view all files if
Safe Mode, if DOS you will need to type - attrib bootlog.txt -h. -at the
DOS prompt, use EDIT to open the file.
Open bootlog.txt in the root. Search for Failures, font failures MAY not be
what your looking for, check at the bottom of the file..
