I have an 80GB HDD on which I treid to install Win98. I copied the files to
the HDD and ran the setup from that directory. After all of the files loaded,
the PC rebooted and said it was running windows for the first time. It then
rebooted in the middle of the splash screen. Since then it will not get past
the splash screen without rebooting. Any ideas on why this would be happening
on a clean install?

Check the setup log for the error. Find out what it is, and we can provide
information on a work-around

Sounds like it got caught in a loop while installing drivers (or certain
software, I suppose). Personally, I'd strip the machine to minimum hardware
and try again before setting up any formal diagnostics. That means pulling
all cards, including video if onboard is available.

If you have over 512megs of ram remove any above that amount while
installing.
after you've modified your vcache setting you can add the add'l RAM

also: not a bad idea to run a ram test
