Why am I seeing over 300 duplicated posts in this NG!? It seems the
first post in many threads are showing the initial post TWICE. In some
case, entire thread segments are duplicated. My inclination is to reset
the NG. But I must go now-- no time to even investigate!

The posts are identical, but their Properties are different. Here is an
example. Can the posts be coming into this NG (I am connected directly
to the MS Server) from two different sources? Why do the dates seem to
indicate different time zones?

Here's my highly intricate, extremely technical explanation: Sometime this
morning, the server puked. During a refresh, all of a sudden there were
hundreds of unread duplicates. I checked a couple to be sure they weren't
"missing posts", then pressed Ctrl-A.

Yep - I saw the same in Thunderbird, and wondered wtf was going on.

I saw the same in Agent. After purging and compacting the newsgroup,
everything was back to normal.

Now I have an unrelated problem in that I can't see my replies to the
"PC not firing up" thread. This has happened to me several times in
the past and I've never managed to find the cause. I've even tried a
third server, aioe.org, which sometimes fixed the problem, but not
this time.

Everything looks OK when I post the message. Agent thinks all went
well. However the messages don't show up in my newsfeed from
msnews.microsoft.com or news.internode.on.net, nor do they show up at
Google Groups. If I try to resend the same message to the aioe.org
news server, it is rejected with an error to the effect that it is
identical to a previously received message, so obviously the messages
are reaching the respective news servers. From there they seem to go
into some kind of bit bucket.

PA, have you seen Chris Quirke? We've got a little problem that is perfect
for him but I haven't gotten any responses and he apparently hasn't been
active in the groups for a while. Did he change his handle? Any ideas who
else might know lots about the topic? Thread is above: "Missing prgs-

No, I got them also, apparently in addition to the changes in Live [now
apparently being modified] they have also been changing the other server
coding. The message reset appeared to date back to around the 12th [April]
though not ALL of the posts [206 reset messages were downloaded].

He drops in on DTS-L and MVPSecTalk lists from time to time (usually in
spurts) so he's around, yes; cquirke[AT]the usual.

Odd case, that. Hijackware? Try reinstalling Windows?

Only one hit of any mention for that error:

How To Troubleshoot Run-Time Error '429' in DCOM Applications:

Otherwise, take your pick:

That's why I want further info on just what it is that disappeared. There's
what looks like a whole partition got wiped, but the OP isn't quite clear on
the details of what's gone from where (he's got three partitions.) Anyway,
waiting for answers.

If OP's done a runner, not much you can do about it (except argue with
Maurice/MEB!)

Re: Duplicated Posts Showing in OE by PCR

PCR

Uhuh-- hundreds of unread duplicates! But, in most/many cases, it seemed
to be just the initial post of certain threads that was duplicated. If
it was due to drunkenness & puking, can it be they had put Brian A.
temporarily in charge? What did Ctrl-A do? Do you mean, instead, you
highlighted the duplicates & pressed Ctrl-D? I lean toward a reset,
which I see did cure Zabcar.

Anyhow, I see it wasn't just me &/or P.A. Bear that was affected. I see
it doesn't matter what news reader is used, by Stapley's & Zabcar's
words. The phenomenon hasn't affected my other (non-MS) NG, either-- so,
it's something screwy at the MS Server going on, though I'm not
convinced it's the same shenanigan that MEB recently encountered with
his HotMail.

I guess I'll reset the NG. OK, thanks.

The OP replied to PCR yesterday that "The prg with the activeX thing has been
reinstalled and running" but I dunno if that means he is no longer getting the
runtime error, as he hasn't been back in the thread since.

Too many variables and not enough info to determine the cause of the missing files.
It could as easily be hardware-related data loss, user error, malware, or.......
