Hi, could someone suggest the best way of recovering a dying 2k workstation.
The pc currently boots up, but hangs on the windows screen. It does go into
safe mode though.

It looks like symantec applications are causing the issue, but i cannot
uninstall them, as the installer service is not running and will not start.
I could really use the config from this box as it is used for a bespoke
application, The pc has a unique setup, which my predecessor did not
document the build of!!

Currently i have no win 2k media, however i may be able to lay my hands on
some.

Woulkd the best option be to try and recover the current install??

Cheers

Run msconfig.exe (http://www.svrops.com/svrops/dwnldoth.htm)
while in Safe Mode to disable the offending application.

Hi, that may have been a red herring....

it appears that msconfig is not on the pc, so i disabled the symantec
services manually.
However the problem persists.

When i try to log in, the pc boots as far as the system startup screen and
then hangs still.
I have tried a repair install, but that has not resolved the issue. Is there
anything else i can try?

Cheers

*** I know - that's why I gave you a link to download msconfig.exe.

*** Symantec utilities have a reputation of being difficult to
*** get rid of.

*** If you don't want to use msconfig.exe, try the Symantec FAQs.
