can I delete hotfixes?

Hi to all,

I have 100 hotfixes installed on my system and would like to uninstall
them - will this wreak havoc?

my problem is very slow response time on my computer, and I have tried
to speed it up by uninstalling old stuff and disabling other things with
no change in speed. All of these hotfixes are the only things left.

I'm running Win2k sp4...

Uninstall or delete the uninstall folders? The former isn't recommended
while the latter is fine as long as you realize you'll never be able to back
down from them individually.

That removes them which I doubt is your intention, as they will be
downloaded again when you update

Perhaps explain what exactly you mean by slow response times

any icon we select on the desktop takes 10 - 40 seconds to load, and i
don't remember it taking that long when we first installed the system 3
yrs ago...

we've tried turning off the firewall, virus scanner, etc., but it is
still slow... a 2nd identical computer in the office runs fast - the
task manager shows 22 processes running where this one shows 46
processes, so i deleted non-matching processes with no change...

????

both load Adobe flash player, Reader 6.0.1, Nero, Yahoo Toolbar,
Applications, and Yahoo dsl network installer; also Printmaster Gold,
C-Media Audio Driver and Nvidia S3 Gamma 2, Display, Overlay, and Info 2.
the slow computer also loads J2SE Runtime environment, Java 6 Updates,
CA Internet security, Firefox, Spamblocker, Windows media player update,
2wire wireless manager, and AT+T

I did find D-Helper Web Driver which was a bad guy and took several
anti-virus's to finally get rid of but it did not speed us up...

The number of running processess doesnt neccessarily impact on 'speed'
22 running processess is an abnormally low number, unless that PC has been
'tweaked'
Terminating running processes, unless you know exactly what they are can
have an adverse impact

Boot your PC into safe mode and see how it runs

Bob,
I would remove as many items from the startup as possible to make it the
same as the other machine. Have you checked the event logs to see if the
machine has another problems?

new discovery: can't read the Event Viewer on the slow computer; get
message 'Unable to Complete the Operation' for the Viewer and individual
parts. so I don't know what errors exist.

the other 2 computers are fine, they are fast, and the Event Viewers work.

I've tried to start the EV's but don't know what to do besides setting
them as automatic in the Services area....
