hi, would you mind telling me how you 'optimised your bios settings' to get the sound working.
I have the same problem, had a look in bios settings but there is nothing there about audio or something that can optimise the bios. did you used a special bios program?
Help would be much appreciated
regards
Christian.

I checked the HP site, and while there is a Vista sound driver for
dv6810eg, there is no driver for WinXP listed.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&product=3696273&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

If you download the Conexant driver for Vista, run it (causing it
to decompress into C:\swsetup\SP37732), you can have a look at the
INF files, to get some idea what kind of device they're using.

QH30EA.INI "Hermosa"

--> VEN_14F1&DEV_5051

You can get one of the utilities like Everest Free Edition or
Sisoftware Sandra, to list the hardware in the computer. Using
a means like that, you may be able to verify the HDAudio chip is
14F1:5051 and some subsystem value. (Even the Subsystem value
has to match, for the driver to install, as the mapping of
hardware to jacks may be identified by the subsystem value.)

Using your new-found search terms, you can find articles like this
one. This addresses finding a driver for Hermosa. There is a
download link to a private site, with a ZIP file on it, in this
case. This would not be my preferred way to solve the problem.
But at least you'd be getting closer.

http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1204621

That thread mentions installing "kb888111xpsp2", which is a
UAA driver from Microsoft. That is one layer of the HDAudio
stack. The device driver is a second component. The XP SP2
version, is presumably intended for installation *after*
SP2 is installed. So it would be SP2, then UAA, then an
appropriate Conexant driver.

Anyway, the path to a solution, involves enumerating the hardware,
and searching for like solutions found by HP owners.

Not a BIOS issue. You had Windows Vista drivers to support your
hardware. You switched to Windows XP. Now you will need to get Windows
XP drivers for your hardware - if they exist. Many computers,
especially laptops, are bundled with Windows Vista because the
manufacturer doesn't provide drivers for earlier versions of Windows.
So basically you're fucked if you want to go back to a more stable,
faster, and more supported version of Windows. Tis the problem in
buying pre-builts.

I visited http://www.hp.com/#Support and entered "dv6810eg" to find
drivers for it. There is a link for "Windows XP". I did not see any
downloads that related to the motherboard chipset (to provide support
for built-in audio). I went under the "Windows Vista" link and, yep,
they list an audio driver. So they have a driver for Windows Vista but
not for Windows XP. Yep, you're fucked by HP.

The "Windows Vista" audio driver downloads says they are for a Realtek
or Conexant controller. I don't know which one you have.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
Click "Accept", then Next.
Try their Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003(32/64bit) driver.

Never used this site. Don't know if it is safe.

For a different HP box (dv6000). Might work on yours.

Usually downgrading to XP, the on-board sound is a new High Definition
Adui, which XP does not have by default. You need to download it
separately:
