When you say the DVD is not being recognised as blank, what exactly do you
mean? Windows XP does not natively detect and report blank disks because it
has no inbuilt ability to write to such disks. It is only when a suitable
third party application is present does blank disks get recognised and
reported (by the application not XP). Such applications would be Packet
Incremental Format writers such as Nero's In-CD or Roxio's Drag-to-disc
(there are others). Some burning utilities will also cause XP to identify
the disk as blank and offer to open the burning utility.
