cd player issue

My cd rom player will no longer read original cd's. It will play my back-up
cd's but not the original application cd's (the cd's are in good codition,
they were tested).

Hi,

I had the same problem before with both CD players/burners and DVD.
After a lot of frustrating testing I simply replaced them for a few
bucks and the problem was gone.
I am not 100% sure but I heard on some fora that heads in the
writer/player can sometimes become unaligned.
That is why you can read your own burned stuff, but now the original ones.
(This is what I was told, I am by no means a optical storage expert, so
I am just echo'ing.)
While this can be fixed by really savvy people in labs, it is of course
much cheaper to buy a new one. ;-)
