Hi All,

I got me a Block Box gizmo that temporarily converts
either an ATA (IDE) or a SATA drive to a USB drive. The
adapter let me take a hard drive and temporarily hook
it up like a flash drive to a computer.

Problem: it only works about 20% of the time.
(I do have another one that only does ATA and it work
about 80% of the time, but no SATA.)

Anyone know of a better ATA/SATA to USB adapter/gizmo?

Many thanks,
-T

Not a direct answer to your question, but I have found these devices to be
somewhat variable. I have 2 supposedly identical units. One works
perfectly, the other will only work with hard disk drives, but won't work
with DVD or CD drives.

Generally the only full proof method is a card with the correct connectors
or an external housing with the appropriate connectors

Why ask here? This is a pure hardware question that has absolutely
NOTHING to do with the OS.

Ask elsewhere

Au contraire. I have had trouble with such converters and the issue was
Windows recognizing the drive through the converter. Windows may very well
be at play in this situation, so you'd best save your tiresome netcop
routine for another thread.

Perhaps you could explain to him first what hardware means. I don't think
they teach that in HS anymore (judging from Nobody's response). Or maybe
it comes in the Senior Year, and he hasn't graduated yet.
