In trying to install the audio drivers for my motherboard I've gotten XP
totally confused. When I first installed the driver CD that came w/ my
motherboard it showed as Realtek AC97 but there was no sound. I then tried
having XP search the net for a better driver and it now shows as Via. Is
there a way I can remove all of the cached driver info and start having XP
detect the hardware from scratch?

Open device mgr, expand the sound tree,R.click the hardware one at a time,
select "uninstall" do for all listed w/o restarting pc,once
thru,exit,shutdown pc
for 10 sec. or so,start pc.XP will reinstall on restart.
