I ran chkdsk (from within My Computer) on my system drive. It completed the
first couple of phases but then said that it could not complete chkdsk. I was
expecting it to give me the option to schedule chkdsk when the PC was
re-booted but to no avail. I decided to re-boot anyway but chkdsk did not run.

How do I carry out a full chkdsk on my PC?

I'm running Win XP Pro SP3.

At the command prompt just enter chkdsk /f

you will then be asked if you want to schedule it to run at next reboot

say yes,
then reboot
