I've got a Gigabyte motherboard with on-board VIA graphics and a
Haans.G wide screen monitor. No CD that came with the motherboard
though. After downloading the graphics driver from manufacturers
website I was able to change the resolution to what I want which is
1280x786pix. After rebooting the computer graphics card driver goes
back to generic driver and in device manager I've got a yellow
exclamation mark next to the graphics card. I was struggling with the
problem for a while also downloading the driver straight from VIA. No
luck. Finally fed up with all this situation I bought an AGP graphics
card from NVidia, installed the drivers and eventually set the monitor
to required settings. All was fine till I rebooted the computer. Guess
what... I'm back with generic driver and in device manager I've got a
yellow exclamation mark next to the graphics card where it says
NVidia .... I attempted one last try updating the BIOS. Didn't help. I
run out of ideas. Any suggestions are most welcome.

yaro,

You say you updated the BIOS but did you disable the onboard VIA graphics? If not, after a reboot the board probably reverts to the onboard graphics.

I thought about it but I cannot find the integrated graphics in BIOS
to disable it.

For the integrated graphics first from Gigabyte and then from VIA
website. The one for the new graphics card from the driver CD that
came with it.

Oh, and as to the BIOS settings what affect would it have to disable
the onboard graphics if the monitor is connected to another graphics
card anyway? Thanks
