I have tried several times to install a mouse on my laptop xp system, and the
installer always gives the some message, can not install this hardware?
does any body know whats ging on? this would be the same with a laser
wireless or optical?

What type of mouse? USB mice should get you to the install driver
part, if the USB ports work.

Read the laptop manual (or read it on line). The manual will
tell you what kinds of mouse suit your laptop (e.g.
USB or PS2) and the mouse manual tells you how to
configure it for XP (e.g. whether you need to load the
software before or after connecting the mouse.)

Several laptops also have a BIOS settings which enable / disables
"external" PS/2 mice.
