I've had a Sony DVD-RW (external) for about three weeks now and it worked
like it should up until this past weekend. I wrote to Sony and we were able
to trace the problem down to the Windows Driver. They had me click on the
Hardware Manager to see if the device was connected and I got the yellow
question mark with a Code 1. It prompted me to install the new hardware and
when I click on it, it brings up the model # of my Sony product and just
keeps searching and searching but nothing happens. Before I go any further,
let me tell you that although I'm a whiz at using a computer (and most times
even fixing it), my knowledge of technical terms is very limited so be easy
on me if you can help. Prior to this, I tried everything I knew how to do
before I realized that if the DVD burner isn't connected anyway, nothing is
going to work.
Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how I go about doing this? If it
is even possible? I don't have a clue as to how I would install a driver. I
read through the support pages and even clicked on some of the options under
Properties but it's like reading another language. Thanks in advance for any
help you can offer.

Depending on what was done, you may have to follow the user guide /
installation steps after installing the drivers from the CD that is /
was included in the box. There needs to be a "cable" that connects
the drive to your PC.

I can't use any CD because the DVD-RW is what I used for my CD's, plus XP
came pre-installed with my computer. Thanks for helping though.
