Hi All,

Could you recommend a 3rd party hard disk diagnostic tool?

Thanks,

Joe

IIRC every disk manufacturer has one. Look on their websites. Most
hard drives even come with floppies/CD's now with the tools on them.
I'd go for that first.

I have used SpinRite since its release about 20 years ago and it does a
great job of finding potential problems with a disk and sometimes
repairing them. It is not free but the cost is trivial to the savings
if it prevents the loss of data.
The last time I needed it I had a boot drive suddenly unusable due to a
data error. I could not even Ghost the drive to a new one. I ran
SpinRite on the drive and Ghost was able to copy the drive perfectly and
a mess was prevented.
