Windows XP SP2 with 6 USB2 ports (2 ports already connected for other devices)

I have WD My Book and trying to install with my desktop computer.
When I connect this HD device as instructed, Found New Hardware Wizard
pops up (Hardware found: My Book) and I select "Install the software
automatically"
But it cannot install this hardware. I finds ?MyBook in Device Manager but
no drivers installed. Disk management shows no drive letter.
Looking for solution!

I would try here. Download the latest software and drivers.

Post here the installation instructions. USB devices
usually require you to instal drivers (from CD) before
you connect for the first time.

Besides of the USB cable, connect also the power cable. It helps :)

Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 2 comes without any CD.
It supposes to work with Windows XP's full driver.
Somehow my old SONY pcv-rx860 desktop computer has been behaved
differently now. Even a simple flash drive cannot pick up connection.
It might be corrupted files somewhere.
Anyway, I just simply connect both usb cable and ac power adaptor and the
rest supposes to be automatic. The devise specs says it comes with simple
FAT32 partition for the full drive capacity.

I've put together some possible reasons for this:

True, but external hard discs generally do not as the drivers are already
available in XP.
