The Application Hang report could be a result of the problem but it is
not the cause. It could simply mean that the demand for memory has made
your system revert to using the pagefile, thereby slowing performance.
The computer then will not respond to the mouse and keyboard until the
the task generating the demand for memory ( or CPU processor useage)
completes. This often happens if you multi task whilst a full anti-virus
scan is in progress. The error is reporting a time out situation. When
you look at Event Viewer Reports for information on a particular
problem, then as soon as the problem occurs. note the time and match it
to the time of the reports in Event Viewer.
Have another look at the Warning and Error Reports in Event Viewer.
Concentrate on the System log. The Error Report you posted came from the
Application log which is less likely to contain what we are looking for.
How long have you been using Internet Explorer 7? Did upgrading to
Internet Explorer 7 coincide with the Disk Error? I suspect not.
Given what you say about your anti-spyware arrangements the problem
could be malware related but that is not to assume that it is. It is a
possibility that merits investigation. I use Windows Defender but it is
not a strong player. It is a support player. I would download and run
the freeware version of Spybot S & D to see what it finds. It will
detect lots of spyware. which you should get it to remove. It may also
find trojans and again these should be removed. However, make a note of
their names as depending on what they are you may need to proceed
further. Spybot may also detect malware ,which it cannot remove. When
removing malware it helps if you run the software in Safe Mode.
Download Spybot S & D from here

Another line of enquiry is to check your hard drive and connections. Are
there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My
Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties, Hardware,Device
Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?
Try HD Tune. This programme only gives information and does not fix any
problems.
Download and run it and see what it turns up. You want HD Tune
(freeware) version 2.55 not HD Tune Pro (not Freeware) version 3.00.

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard )
and copy into a further message.
Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Make sure you do a full
surface scan with HD Tune.

Hope this helps.
