CD-DVD missing from 'My Computer'

My CD-DVD is missing in all applications. This happened 3 weeks ago and I
fixed it with DougKnox's fix. last night I tried three fix's from here
including Knox's, this time nothing works! DVD seems to disappear after
microsoft auto updates go onto my laptop.

John, did you try going to Device Manager>Dvd/Cdrom Drives>Your Drives and
rt clicking each one choosing Uninstall
and restart your computer.

Hi Rich,
thanks for getting in touch. There's no CD-DVD listed (nor CD-DVD drives) in
'Device Manager'. This was the same as before. DougKnox's fix worked fine.
This time it doesn't work. I must add that I found another fix on here I used
first, then Knox's this time! both didn't work.

I just remembered that I installed 'Real Player' and then uninstalled it. I
then re-installed it for a different default country. Perhaps this affected
the DVD?

Ok I fixed this myself. For the benefit of others: I put the laptop on it's
slim side with DVD drive facing up. I used both thumbs to press down hard on
the DVD door, pushing it into the laptop. 'My Computer' and everything now
recognises the drive!!
