    - CD ROM Drive not working, missing registry All of a sudden my cd & dvd drives are not working. I uninstalled them and tried to reinstall them but it won't let me now. The error message says: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) PLEASE someone help me.     - DVD driver not reading/recognizing discs Hi, I have a NEC ND-3550A DVD driver that has recently being "on strike" for certain DVDs I tried to play on it. The DVDs were actually created using the driver itself, which worries me a bit as I have quite a few... You pop the DVD into the driver, it tries to read it for a while and then just changes the driver icon and when you double-click it, it's as if the DVD had no contents. Does anyone know of any reason why it would do that or could like point me in some direction using Google or something? Much appreciated! As always... Regards!     - Camera not working. For some reason my digital camera - a simple cannon one, won't work with Microsoft scanner and Camera wizard. It seems to take forever to do anything. - just says it's reading and getting picture information... it can do thsi for 10 minutes, even if there is only just the one photograph on the camera card!!! ?     - Lost wireless keyboard + mouse Yesterday after doing an uninstall of iTunes browser I lost my HP wireless keyboard / mouse. I can use the PC if I plug in a cabled keyboard / mouse, but the wireless kb / mouse do not work. When I reboot and then plug in the USB receiver (for the kb / mouse) the Found New Hardware Wizard pops up. If I tell it to install it doesn't find a driver and fails. I don't know where to tell it to find a driver, and I don't have an install CD for it. I've swapped it to other USB ports, and have used other items in the USB port. Device Manager says it is not configured properly and has the option of selecting to install a driver. All other references to USB in Device Manager are functioning properly. There is not a driver on the HP web site, and HP chat was not helpful; they were grasping at straws toward the end. The did reference chipset files, but poorly. Restore to earlier dates does not help. I've not been able to locate any generic drivers. It seemed that the iTunes browser install was tangled up with the .NetFrame install some how.     - DVD drive not seeing disks Our "Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-107D" is consistently refusing to see certain types of disk, that it used to be able to read and write. 156MB CD-RWs and DVD-Rs do not show up - the drive appears to be empty. CD/CD-Rs play and write normally. Windows says the device is working fine, and we have the most recent driver. This is intensely annoying. Do I need a different driver?     - XP slowdown + best 5 1/4" bay HD caddy please :-) Sorry for possibly OT:'ing again but, it takes sooooo long trawling around for hardware on websites and reviews, and there's bound to be kind soul in here who knows all about hard-disk caddy's / removable hard-disk bays. ...little bit of background... I just know that I'm going to flatten this system soon ! It was like greased lightening after its' fresh install, with new motherboard and cpu and SATA hd's early last year. I've never pinned down what's slowing it down - I've been looking for that, on and off, ever since. I repair installed my XP Home ed. a few weeks ago, and dragged it back up to scratch - still no sign of that breathtaking responsiveness that was only there for its' first few weeks - last year. That's not to say it's slow - it's pretty responsive, ...and quite useable, ...and reliable, ...and it is VERY robust. ....but, ...I keep thinking I would like to rearrange the innards of my old Lian-Li PC-60 slightly so that my boot hd is in a hd caddy, which I can yank it out, and install from scratch onto a new hd, in a much more gradual and methodical fashion, at my leisure, over a period of days, and a few weeks maybe, whilst retaining "this" XP Home ed. installation for "normal" use, until I can permanently move, to my more "methodically built" XP Home ed. paltform. I really would like to pin-down, where the "slow-down" occurs. (PleeeeeeZ no EULA lectures...:-) I've spent considerable time, in bits, looking into this for several months. I keep an eye on running processes, hd bus mastering is working lovely i.e. hd transfer speed is excellent, I've looked, in detail, into every bios option, KB869256 didn't solve it, I've pruned out Windows services several times, rather I've "preened" my windows ....I digress.... Lian-Li removeable IDE hd-bay/hd caddies are quite expensive when I last spotted them on a site somewhere, a long time ago, and I don't know if they make SATA ones nowadays, ...I guess they do. ...and I don't want the cheaper plastic ones for obvious reasons, so does anyone know for half-decent quality hd bays and caddies ?     - Cannot connect to the printer operation could not be completed I used to have two desktops A & B, they have internet sharing and printer sharing , they were working fine. Desktop A XP Professional SP2 PC has got two printers (HP and Samsung) connected directly (USB cable), and Printer sharing is turned on . I bought another Desktop to replace B, because B is an old PC.     - Gameport doesn't work on XP Recently I bought a new computer. It doesn't have a gameport, so I installed my old sound card (Creative SB) in it. Windows (XP Professional) identified the card and gameport, and installed their drivers. The soundcard really works now (although I have an audio device included in the motherboard - it's Intel DG31PR, if it makes any difference). But the gameport doesn't work - it claims the joystick is "not connected". I tried every solution I found in the Knowledge Base, but none helped. Strangely, the soundcard was installed at I/O port 0xD000 instead of 220H. Windows doesn't let me change it. I checked with Intel, and the motherboard doesn't assign any I/O ports, so it must be windows (they hinted that it may be a registery issue). I don't know if it is related to the gameport issue, as the soundcard itself works fine. I'll alos comment that these very soundcard and joystick worked on the old computer. I'd thank any help.     - Modifying Advanced Com Port Properties Hello, I have a user that requires changes to the Com Port Advanced Properties (Device Mgr>>Ports>>Com1>>Properties>>Port Settings>>Advanced). The next thing I see is the message "You must have write privileges in the registry for this device in order to modify the devices advanced settings". This is being attempted from an admin-level local user account, so it is unclear where these privileges would originate other than Administrator-level permissions. This appears to be a default setting as it is the same on every one of several PCs I have looked at in researching this up to this point. I have also looked at the registry for any clues, but hate to rummage through there more than necessary. Has anyone had occasion to modify these settings and how did you do it?     - How many monitors? Can anybody tell, why Device Manager shows two display adapters and three monitors in my XP box - all present and in good state?     - Computer dead Hello - I have a 5 year old Gateway Media Center XP. In the last year I've replaced the hard drive and the bios battery. Last night, without warning my computer shut completely down - just went black. I tried restarting to no avail. Nothing turns on - not the fans or a hiss of the hard drive. I unplugged the computer overnight - did not start this morning. I opened it up, the only sign of electricity is a green light on the motherboard that lights up when the power is connected.     - ATI 256mb cards prevent hibernation in XP I have a DELL Vostro and an ATI 256Mb card (WIN XP PRO SP2). I can put the PC into hibernate but when it comes out of hibernation it freezes up with a BLUE screen saying there is a problem with the ATI2DVAG driver. I have searched the NET for updates but this is the current driver. I have noticed in a number of other computers with these 256Mb cards and they always play havoc with hibernation. I don;t think you can hibernate a PC with these cards in place. Worse still even if you remove the card the problem persists as remnants of the driver are hard to remove. is there a fix for this? I have emailed DELL but I can guaratee they won't have a fix for this. i am sure others have this problem but it appears that if you want hibernation then you need to get rid of these cards..     - 'USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned' Error with Hi, I am using Western Digital's 120GB Passport (External USB drive). Model Number: WD 1200XMSC It was working fine with my Dell laptop (Windows Vista-Home Basic) and my Office PC (Win XP). I was able to copy files from Laptop/ PC to HDD and vice-versa. One worst day, I printed some pics on my Home Canon IP4000 Printer by commenting it to USB port. When printing was done I removed Printer connection and shutDown the laptop. Next day when I Attached my WD External drive I got this Error saying -"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message." When I clicked the message I got A DialogBox stating USB's status as Unknown USB device!!!     - FAT32 Memory Cards I bought a 8GB microSD to use in my Smartphone. It works fine in the phone but it does not work in any of my card readers. It does not show up as a removable drive on my laptop or PC with WinXP SP2. Another oddity, using Windows Media Player 11 with the phone using a 2GB (FAT16) card WM would sync my playlists.     - XP PC - bootup stuck at 1st bootup screen I have a PC that runs Windows XP that I have been using for a few years. It is custom built using an MSI 865GM3-LS motherboard and an Intel Pentium CPU. On booting up it now gets stuck at the first bootup screen which displays an MSI logo on the top left corner, and Intel Pentium Logo on the lower right corner and some text in the middle that reads "8Xtreme Series", "Performance, Durability, Stability", I have reset the CMOS by setting the jumper to reset it, but still have the same problem.     - Guarding against file transfer errors between media Is there a way to ensure error-free file transfers between different media - especially between a computer and an external drive (USB2) ? Using such drives here it is sometimes found that some files (not any particular type) would be corrupt or damaged. This does not happen in any alarming proportions but does happen. At random and not confined to any particular machine or device. All drives checked out okay physically as well as in CHKDSK. Does the USB2 process itself include an error percentage, BTW ?     - windows xp add hardware wizard stops with error code 10 Hi a friend booted up her computer this morning and the keyboard would not work. It is a ps2 type connection, purple plug. She went into device manager but it is not showing an entry for a keyboard but there is an unidentified entry. She tried updating the unidentified entry but it cannot find any drivers. She then went to control panel and ran the add hardware wizard but it stopped with an error code ten. Thinking the keyboard was faulty sheI unplugged it and tried running the add hardware wizard without the keyboard attached but still got the same error message. When she ran the keyboard icon from control panel on the hardware tab the window is blank. Any suggestions as to why the add hardware wizard will stop with an error even with no keyboard attached? I will be going to see her tomorrow and she is at present just using her mouse and the onscreen keyboard to try to solve this problem. I have no further info than I have already told you.     - Nic never working - Realtek 8139 I have a great problem on XP Pro Sp2. Notice: Hardware P4 dual and nic realtek 8139 fully working. Tested with any kind of Linux. No virus. No troyan. Tried sfc/scannnow and reinstallation over current XP starting from CD. I've tried everything, even started with UBCD4Win (avoiding the lock on hardware profiles in the registry) and deleting every reg entry I can found bounded to the nic, and every drivers present in the HD, inf, and even from .cab archive cache. I have disabled the nic, installed a new one, and I got the same problem again. I've serched hidden nic, but I don't see any other nic ( Tested various drivers, from the original bounded with the nic (and is for XP) to new realtek update of this year. NOTHING! Everytime I reinstall the nic/driver, everything seems OK, but finally XP says (sorry for traslation because my system is Italian located) that it can find a file. I don't know what file because it says nothing about this file. Every kind of driver i tested say that. Do you have any procedure to check every single step XP do to reach that bad result?     - Serious AUDIO DEVICE problem; due to sp2 Microsoft update install. Alrighty. I called Microsoft to get some help with my system restore. Was having some issues with it; it wasn't working. The first time I downloaded Windows XP SP2 from your website, my system restore disappeared. I called Microsoft, they connected to me, and within a couple of hours it was fixed. THEN, microsoft manually re-downloaded SP2 for me "AGAIN". As soon as we got off the telephone, I realized that my AUDIO DRIVER was no longer working. My drivers are all screwed up to no end. I cannot find any in my system that work and when I try to redownload them from TOSHIBA (I HAVE A SATELLITE), they are not updating or even redownloading properly. Microsoft did this to me and I don't have a CD, it was a floor model and I never got around to buying a restore disk. What Microsoft failed to realize is that TOSHIBA SATELLITES CANNOT BE UPDATED WITH SP2. I am not the only one with a TOSHIBA SATELLITE that has had this issue. A number of forums discuss this issue and even some of the greatest hackers out there cannot figure this one out (it seems easy to fix, but it is not).     - Random crashes - please help? Hello, I was hoping someone in here could help me with a problem I've been having with my computer crashing. I'm not exactly sure when this all started, but it was well over a year ago (my computer is about 4 years old). About every 30 days or so my computer would just restart. I didn't think much of it since it only happened about once a month. But then it started happening more often. So I turned off the auto-restarts and started looking at the BSOD's and sending error reports to Microsoft. The BSOD's weren't always the same.. I'd get anything from DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, PAGEFAULT_IN_A_NON_PAGED_AREA, or something else. And it's VERY random! Sometime I'll get a BSOD after 2 days.. sometimes in a week.. the longest I've gone without a blue screen is 42 days. A couple times the error report said that it was my anti-virus program causing the problem. The computer came with Norton AV 2000 installed. But when the subscription ran out.. I uninstalled Norton and installed Avast. Microsoft advised that I check services to see if I don't have two AV programs running at the same time. I have AVG Anti Spyware and Spybot S&D installed which are compatible with Avast. So that can't be the problem. I've also been told it might be a memory problem.. or a driver problem. The last BSOD said that the crash was caused by a device driver.. but how can I find out ~which~ driver? I looked at the event viewer and this is what was in it.. (Before anyone asks: yes, I know there are a couple of DOS newsgroups on the microsoft server, but they are unpopulated (been "there" already). There is no legacy USB support "option" in my new Dell Windows XP computer's BIOS, but the "USB controller" option in BIOS is enabled, of course. 2. I've tried "usbmice" (with OCHI and UHCI drivers), and also DUSE, but none of them work on my PC with a simple optical mouse. Does anybody know of any others? 3. If a driver doesn't exist that will work on this PC, would it instead be possible to add some I/O card (or a PS/2 card) and get a PS/2 mouse instead, or something along those lines, to allow for mouse support (in these DOS boot disks, or other DOS apps)?     - Device Manager questions I see two of the following in the Device Manager with yellow icons containing an "!" HID Non-User Input Data Filter The Properties/General and Driver tabs shows the same data for both of them. The General tab has the following info: Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37) I believe one is for the keyboard and one is for the mouse. Are these the code that for the extended keys on the keyboard and extended buttons on the mouse? Does it make sense that drive is the same for both of them? On the Details tab the strings are different. There is also a HID-compliant device entry in the Device Manager. What is this for? Also two USB Human Interface Devices. These last three do not have the ! icon attached. The reason I'm interested is that I can't get the extended keys to work on my laser keyboard 6000 v2. If I uninstall the devices I mentioned above and reboot, and press the volume control key while windows is starting, I get the volume icon on the screen for a little while. The Installed Wireless Device pops up followed by one (not two) Installed HID-Something, and the volume display fades away and further pressing the key will not bring it back.     - USB2.0 Camera says this device can perform faster I have a Dell Latitude D620 notebook with Windows XP SP2. Whenever I connect devices that are USB2 capable, they function at USB2 speeds, EXCEPT my Sony DSC-S500 camera. Every time I connect it, I get the "This Device can perform faster...." popup in the system tray. The camera is USB2.0 capable, and is the only device that I have this issue with.     - The old "C" Drive replacement issue I've done it before - will do it again - and the age-old problem cannot be rectified by this old guy.... I want to replace my "C" (boot) drive with a larger/faster drive. First, I back up my stuff. I Install the new larger drive. I use every type of "copy" software known to mankind (this man anyway). I follow the directions - be it from MS, Seagate, Maxtor, 3rd party vendor, etc.... What do I wind up with? A "D" Drive that is bigger, faster - but hosed up, because all of the programs are looking for "C", of course! Reading the News Groups, all I see is, "You can't change the letter for the "C" drive". I'm having some trouble using the card with the laptop and as part of the diagnostic process I thought I'd just check to make sure that XP supports the Expresscards.     - PC won't start. I have a Dell Dimension 2350 Desktop. I plugged in a new Mouse this morning, put the installation disk in and all was ok. Used the computer for a short while then switched off as normal. Remembered there was something else I wanted to do so switched Comp back on but no joy. The Screen stayed Black, the LED's by the Power Switch stayed off and the only light that came on was the one by the CD- Tray which flashes continuously. When I press the button on the CD the Tray only comes out part way or not at all. I tried switching Computer on and off again a couple more times but got the same negative result. If it's just that the CD Burner is knackered, why wouldn't the Computer boot up? If it is more serious than just the CD Burner, as the Computer is heavily used and about 5 years old, I'm assuming it probably isn't worth spending too much on? Any ideas what it might be? Thanks. cd to boot it does not shows the partion of the hard disk and after
pressing enter it shows RAM related error plz help me out???

The installer will prompt you to press F6 to install additional drivers

at that point you insert the floppy with your SATA drivers

and the installation will continue

DO you mean you have Vista installed on your pc and are using it AND that
you are trying to install Service pack 2 for XP?
IF so then WHY?
SP2 is for Windows XP ONLY.
OR do you mean you are trying to UPGRADE Vista to Windows XP SP2 version?
