missing event sounds

i am having problems with mywindows xp event sounds,, there are none!! i go
to sounds and audio, but there is no drop down menu. i can hear sounds from
programmes i have intsalled and play films etc., but this has got me!!

Try this:

Open the Registry Editor (Start\Run regedt32.exe)
goto and export this key:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\AppEvents
Name it Sounds.reg

Open Sounds.reg with Notepad and Replace all:
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\AppEvents

With:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents

Save and close.

Double-click or right-click and merge into the Registry.
