I'm not sure what View Point is but every now and then I get something
telling me to update it. I just click the x to close the dialog box. How
can I stop this update from being triggered?

First thing I would do is lookup View Point on the web and then ask my
question to their technical support.

Who knows, maybe it's this:
http://www.viewpoint.com/

Hope that's not adware.
