    - Can't change file association for DOS batch files I am running Windows XP Home. The other day I went into the file associations page of Explorer / Tools and changed the file association setting for editing batch files from the default Notepad to my favored editor EditPad Pro. Today, when I tried to run a bach file, instead of it running, it opened in EditPad Pro. I thought that it would be easy to change the setting for running such a file, but when I went into the file association page, MS Dos batch files were nowhere to be found. How can I fix this?     - Dual boot activate on press key Hi, My PC has two partitions. 1-XP pro, 2-DOS. I create a dual boot (XP and DOS). The DOS partition is only for use to recover if a crash occurs on the XP partition. I use ghost.exe. But at each boot, a menu appears for select the boot partition. It is possible to not display a menu and to activate the DOS Partition using a special key combinaison on my keyboard only when i want it?     - Internet Domains A part of the Registry keeps filling up with domains. The section is listed below: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains] When this part of the registry gets full of Domains listed, my email becomes sluggish and I get a delay when I'm typing.     - help for problem RUNDLL; how can i deal with it?? Dear all, I was tried to update my Windows XP today. I found i have the hardware, Creative - Sound - SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio, and i found i have this hardware!! Therefore, i used the customised update in the microsoft.com, with all other updates. When the process is to the updating of the Creative - Sound - SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio item, a dialog box is shown and then a blue screen is flashed for half second, and it restarted by itself. After the restarting, i found problems are here!! the first dialog is: Rundll32.exe - µLªk§ä¨ì¿é¤JÂI µLªk§ä¨ìµ{§Ç¿é¤JÂI_except_handler4_common(¦b°ÊºA³sµ²µ{¦¡®wmsvcrt.dll) then i clicked OK.     - Desktop icons won't change and can't remove file I placed a link on my desktop from the web, now when not on the internet, it appears as a white box with a red x in it. I cannot remove it or select it. When on the internet, the actual picture ( a circuit diagram) appears, I assume from the link. Also, my icon wording has colored boxes around them which I cannot remove either. I tried making the selection "translucent" in the performance-visual options, but no go. Also, when I start windows, I now get a message that the security settings do not allow active x to run, so my desktop properties may not display properly.     - Nero Uninstall Issue I had the Nero 8 Demo installed, but no longer have the original installation files. I now have the full blown licensed version of Nero 7 (which is actually Nero 7.9). I can't install the 7.9 version because the system detects a newer version (even though the newer version Demo period has expired). I can't uninstall version 8 because of some errors. How can I get version 8 off my machine so I can install version 7.9?     - Content Advisor settings for each user account? I have 4 user accounts: me, wife, 2 young kids. I want to use the IE7 Content Advisor to control the webpages and sites the kids will be restricted to. They are young enough not to be able to defeat the Advisor but can type enough to get into trouble. Question: Can I enable Content Advisor just for the kids user accounts? When I enable it now logged in as one of them and log off to log on as myself, the Content Advisor is also enabled under my user account. I am hoping the Advisor can be "inidividualized" for each user account just as the "favorites" are different for each user.     - Redirecting special folders for multiple users to one location. Windows XP sets up special folders (including the favourites folder) for each user in their area on the home computer. You can redirect them using Tweak UI. However, Tweak UI gives the following warning: "Carelessly changing your special folders may make your system unusable. For example, don't set two special folders equal to each other, or set a special folder equal to a system folder like the Fonts folder. Continue changing special folders?" I already read "How to redirect special folders in Windows XP?" (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/RedirectFolders.htm), but this article does not give an answer to the above mentioned warning. Questions: (1) Can you set up a shared special folder "favourites" where several users (separate logins under Windows XP) can have access to using the normal procedure in IE7 [e.g. add to Favorites Center]?     - Taskbar items greyed out Raised this a couple of months ago, with no solution. Happening fairly often now, so keen to find a fix. My minimised XP Home taskbar entries (whether folders or programs) are greyed out. Left-clicking does nothing. Right-clicking brings up the same menu you get when you click on an empty part of the taskbar (Toolbars, Cascade Windows, etc). So far, the only way I've found to recover is to reboot.     - Use Open App, Don't Open New File If you have Internet Explorer open, you are working in another app, and then click IE in the QuickLaunch, you get a second new window in IE. Is there a setting that would open the existing IE window/app rather than starting a new 2nd window? This is especially annoying when you want to use Hot Keys on a Microsoft keyboard.     - Possible XP bug I'm running XP MCE 2005 on a Dimension E520. Dual-core Pentium D, 1 GB RAM, 256 MB Geforce 7300 LE, SB X-Fi Xtreme Music, 2 internal SATA hard drives. I moved the location of my My Documents folder to the secondary hard drive. One day I was modifying the folder pictures and folder types for folders contained in my My Documents folder. After I applied the picture changes I changed the folder type and checked the box to apply the template to all subfolders. After applying this change and poking around a bit, I noticed that EVERY folder shown in thumbnail view on the second drive showed one picture (one of the ones I selected for the previous customizations) while EVERY folder on the primary drive shown in thumbnail view displayed another pic I used for the previous customizations. This was even applied several folder levels ABOVE the folders where I made the customizations, including the root of my C: drive. I did a LOT of searching around for a fix, or even just some documentation of this issue. The only thing I found suggested deleting ALL thumbs.db files off my system. I tried that to no avail. Then I had an idea...one of the pics was stored in 1 folder and 1 folder only so I searched my registry for the name of that file, deleted the 2-3 at the most entries for that file, and voila! problem gone.     - TweakUI for XP Produces Registry Error I use TweakUI for XP SP 2, and I was having trouble keeping the folder settings. So, I opened the registry and looked at what TweakUI had entered. It was NOT the same as what Microsoft had recommended on their website. The numbers were correct and the placement were correct, BUT, where the correct way to have the entries is BagMRU Size, TweakUI has it entered it as Bag MRU Size - with a space inbetween the Bag and the MRU. After hand correcting this, my folders are now keeping their settings. Is there anyone else that has noticed this error, and if so, is there any way to advise Microsoft's TweakUI developers of this of this error in their program? Thanks!     - Customize Windows Explorer I made a change such that Explorer when double clicked would open on the C:\ Root Directory instead of the way it opens on My Documents when it ships. I think it was something adjusted in the registry. I forgot what it was that I did. I'm still recovering from a major melt down of my computer. I am installing everything fresh.     - Copying User Profiles- Copy To button grayed out Windows XP with all updates I am having a problem copying a user profile. I researched the MS Knowledgebase and found article 314478 giving instructions for copying a user profile which says Click Start button, right click My Computer, click Properties, click Advanced Tab, Click Settings under User Profiles. Then click the Profile you want to Copy and then click Copy To. This where I have a problem. The Copy To button is grayed out on the Profile I am trying to copy.     - Unread email notification icon on taskbar - removal. Hi, Windows displays an unread email notification 'envelope' icon on my taskbar - that is as opposed to Thunderbird's new email notification message which I've turned off. The Thunderbird forum informed me the envelope icon is a Windows icon which can be turned off by specifying 'always hide pm@nsfm.com has xx new messages'. However I don't like hiding 'inactive' icons - I like to see what's in my memory and find the 'show all' button fiddly. Furthermore... Tweak UI has a 'Show taskbar notification icons' setting but if I switch that off won't I then miss important notifications like my Firewall informing me of an update and such like? Perhaps there's a tweak somewhere (in the registry perhaps) that will allow me to permanently stop the unread email notification 'envelope' icon from appearing. I get a lot of email, and don't have the time to look at it all as it arrives, so the envelope icon is on my taskbar most of the time - I don't like it and I don't need to be told that I have unread email since I pretty much always have some unread email !!     - opening docs and URLs via DDE extremely slow - reason??? I am experiencing extremely slow (30-60 seconds!) opening of Office Documents and web pages when a document, or a link, resp. gets double-clicked. The delay is not present if an office app is started and the document is then opened from within (or by dragging the document into the application). Same with IE: if I start it and drag or paste the URL into the address field, it is openend "immediately". After some longish searching I found out that I can fix this by changing the file associations (or URL-HTTP association) from using DDE to not using DDE. What might cause one CD to display tracks in the order 2,3,4,5,1 when
all other CD's in my library display correctly in track order?

I can easily sort by track number, but if I chose to play the entire CD,
it will play out of sequence.
