Hiya folks!

I promise that I have tried everything in this forum, and this i
really frustrating me! I cant seem to get my desktop icons to have
transparent background! Here is what I tried:

1. Tried enabling and disabling Active Desktop.
2. Tried the drop shadow setting in performance settings window.
3. The image I have in the background is a jpg image.
4. When I try the default Windows XP theme, the icons are also no
appearing with transparent backgrounds.

I think something is wrong with some hidden settings but I cant seem t
figure it out!

Any advice? (I am comfortable working with registry and advance
features as long as a good step by step instructions are provided!)

Thank you

Right click on an open spot on your Desktop.
From the menu that pops out, look under "Arrange Icons By" and make sure "Lock
Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
If it is, click on it to remove the check mark.

If that doesn't help, check out this response from MS-MVP Malke Routh to a
similar question.

Good luck

Hello! Thank you for advice!

I had already tried these and the suggestions from other post - forgo
to mention in my first post - but they didnt help.

I think it must be some setting hidden really deep in windows!

Thank you! Any other suggestions folks?

Thank you

This works for me....
Start =>Control Panel
System=>Advanced Tab
Performance=>Visual Effects
Uncheck (most)
EXCEPT (these 5 I leave checked)
Smooth edges of screen fonts
Smooth scroll list boxes
Use common tasks......
Use drop shadows.....
Use visual styles........
