I have this icon that has appeared on the desktop: "CAIUOP83." It has no
attributes, no bytes and cannot be deleted or cut. I've tried searching the
registry, using a couple of re cleaners, cc Cleaner system restore and
nothing gets rid of this! It must be associated with something
somewhere...Any help appreciated.

Could it be associated with malware?

If you right click it and select properties what the info there tell you?.
Did you tried to delete in Safe Mode or run one of these cleaner on starup
like Ccleaner has this option!.
Did you run a thorough scan for malware and viruses as Earl mentioned it
could be a malware or a virus, try more than one scan from different vendors
to get a clear pic of how much clean your system.
Also try to perform this action with Admin rights?.
HTH.

Can you please download the hijackthis and send me a copy of the scan log at
my e-mail below and it will be handy if you sent me a pic of that icon (you
can use Shift + Print screen and then paste into the paint).
