Administrator on Home Edition

I set up Home Edition on a computer but I don't know how to log in as
Administrator. I'm sure Home Edition sets it up automatically but how do I
switch users so that I can log in?

Do you see your user account listed on the Welcome Screen?

You are probably already an administrator when you log in under your own
name. If you mean the root administrator account, you can log in to this via
safe mode or if you use the log on screen in normal mode [that is you click
on a user name and enter a password] press ctrl-alt-delt twice at the log on
screen and then enter user name administrator and the password will probably
be blank (good idea to put a password on it though).

The built-in Administrator account is only available in Safe Mode on a computer
running XP Home Edition. You will find that you cannot logon to this account in
normal mode. As a matter of fact, if you were to configure XP HE to
automatically logon to the Administrator account at startup, you'd receive an
error message and have to resort to using the Logon to Windows dialog that
appears when you hit Ctrl + Alt + Del twice in order to logon with your regular
account.

You might get better help with this question if you provide some details in
exactly why you're trying to logon with the Administrator account.

Thanks all 3 for you answer. I simply wanted a second way to get into the
computer in case the user of the machine forgets or messes up their
password. With XP-Pro, I always set it up so that the Administrator is
displayed at all times as one of the users. That is what I was wanting to
do. So as long as I know I can get into it... that will work.

It is unwise to give users access to the built-in Administrator account.
The Administrator is often the last hope when a machine fails and should
not be used for any other purpose.
