When Sp3 came out, I installed it, and burned it to CD so I would have it..
now I see in System information it's not showing up.. My friend and I did
this at the same time, and her's is not showing either.. Does this mean I
don't have it? Rainy

Rainy, did you Install the larger SP3 file. Over 448MB?
Go to C:\Windows\$NTServicePackUninstall$ which should be 448MB . If
there then
it's been installed. In order to see this folder you may have to go to
Tools>Folder Options>View>click on Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck
Hide protected operating system files.

Rt-click My Computer, select Properties and you will then see if SP3 has
been installed.

I went back to windows update to try and get it again.. and it just hung! So
I got out my Cd and tried to install it.. Got tons of errors, first error
was "can't find a file" on my d drive that they just put there.. then a
zillion "can't read memory" errors as it was installing.. I finally rebooted
after the install, checked system properties to see if it installed and it
did.. but is it all there?.. Seems like after all those errors it would only
be partly there.. This was the worst install I have done.. especially from
Microsoft.. Rainy

Now I am having problems first one was outlook express had disappeared.. so
I went to add windows components and reinstalled it.. Now IE is acting
strange.. I did the same thing by reinstalling it, and it tries to open
windows live messenger.. I am thinking I should uninstall this update, or
choose system restore to go back to where I was.. Rainy

Rainy, did you do a check for Malware or Virus before trying to install SP3?
That was
a major factor when people were having trouble with SP2. I installed the
large 448MB
SP3 file and most of it was updates that I already had. I have not had any
trouble with
SP3, so far.

The onlt time I could get a complete d/l from the MS site was at 9AM
EDT.
If you got your copy from a newsgroup. it might have been defective.

Open the ISO and extract the info on installing.
A tech said to kill the firewall and all other pgms including the AV.
I`d pull the internet connection.

I would not worry about the SP3 until your new drive is straight.

Did you mention the D partition?
Are you trying to install to the d? Doesn`t it have to be on the C
partition?
If I think of anything else, I`ll wait until you have a chance to think.
