After reinstalling Xp, I did a restore with Nero.     - Mouse problem I have been searching for a couple of days but am so unsure if I am doing the right thing, I am posting here. I am trying to play "80 days around the world" and when I do, my cursor shakes, I have reinstalled both the nvidia graphics and the video drivers, uninstalled the game, and manually removing the game folder and also software entries in both hkey machine and hkey user. I also did a search for the game on my computer and deleted everything that came up by that name. Then reinstalled the game, but still my cursor is shaking. I thought it could be my driver for my mouse but the mouse seems to be working ok otherwise . I went to device manager and found that it is listed as a Microsoft ps/2 mouse, ? but know it is a microsoft optical! , $14 at OFFICE max..:) I cannot find my mouse drive, the one that came with the mouse. Windows XP SP3 I think the game started to act up after I installed SP3.. I didn't have a good install, tried to use system restore to remove and start over, but it would not work for me.     - Windows will not boot This started with no warning ... running windows xp home and when I try to start whether it is in regular mode or safe mode, I get the following message: windows cannot start because the following file is either missing or corrupt.     - Beed Help - Folder Permissions I am using the so-called Solutions Center for the HP 7200 series AIO, and cannot get the scan function to save what I scan. It shows an error message saying that it cannot do the save. I am using XP PRO SP2. I had created a new folder called c:\My Scans, but I notice the properties say read only. Naturally, I suspect this is my problem, but when I remove the check on read only, it comes right back again. That is, it won't let me remove the check. The XP Helps show that I should be able to change permissions, but it shows doing it via a security tab under the folder's properties. I see no such tab. What am I missing? Am I in the right place to do what I want to do? Do you think this is why I cannot save what I scan? I am the only user of this system with Administrator privileges, I think.     - Sliding systray - possible to get static, stable systray back? I don't know what I did. I rarely have that kind of thing happen anymore, but there you go. My systray is no longer visible at all. I have to hover the mouse pointer over the area for it to slide into view. But the minute mouse pointer moves out of general area, it slides closed again.     - Auto assign drive letters I have had this issue with several Windows XP workstations. Whenever I plug in a external storage device like a thumb drive, it assigns a drive letter that is already in use by a mapped drive.     - Question about Backup Program I successfully installed the backup program by double-clicking on NTBACKUP.MSI and was able to back up my data, but on pg. 925 of Robert Cowat's book on Windows XP Home Edition there is a statement : "And don't forget to mark the System State check box to protect your Registry and system configuration".     - Autoplay Feature has Stopped Working The autoplay feature seems to have stopped working on a computer. Autoplay is enabled for all drives including the fixed drives (according to Tweak UI). No matter how I confugure Properties->Autoplay nothing happens when the drive is "activated" - i.e. a DVD is inserted or a camera's plugged in, or a removale disk is attached. If I configure the optical drive to start WMP when a DVD is inserted nothing happens, if I configure it to offer a range of options nothing happens. This used to work I'd insert a DVD and WMP would play it. Same thing with my camera, it used to bring up the camera and scanner wizard - this does not happen any more, nor do I get a range of options. In other words the whole Autoplay feature seems to have stopped working. The OS/Version is XP-Home SP2 - according to Windows Update the only missing updates are SP3 and Silverlight, it's hard to believe that either of those would fix the problem.     - Making an XP reinstallation disc It used to be that manufacturers supplied a copy of Windows that you could use to reinstall the OS in case it got messed up. That seems to have gone out of style. My IBM ThinkCentre desktop has a hidden hard-drive partition with the files needed to reinstall XP. But what if the hard-drive goes bad after the warranty is expired? It looks like I lose the XP license. It seems unreasonable. So I want to make a CD or DVD that would reinstall XP---not backup all my documents---I would make a separate backup of my own data.
