Have checked for its (asms) presence on cd , OK ! Further on : "State the seek-way to the file and click ok ".     - Folder Problems Hi Guys, I am having a problem either making new folders or renaming them, the error message says; Renaming, moving or deleting new folder 3 could make some programs not work.     - deletion of user acct Hi, Now that my daughter started college and has her own laptop, I want her to place all the files that pertain to her from my desktop, that is in her user acct, so that I can delete it and have yet a little bit more space on my 4 yr old pc. On my desktop, there are (4) user accts. and I want there to be (3) now. Do I just delete user acct?? Will it remove ALL her stuff just like that or is there some tweaking needed in the registry.     - file-sharing troubles We have a wireless network in our home that's been working for years. It comprises three machines, two running XP Home and one running XP Pro. All share files with each other. Recently, one of the XP Home machines can no longer share with the XP Pro machine. One can open the list of shared files on the Home machine, but when you try to explore a folder or open a file on the Pro machine an error pops up claiming the Home machine has insufficient privileges. It also proclaims that there is insufficient storage on the server (Pro) to complete the request. I have found information about altering the lanman paramaters on the Pro machine to increas the value of IRPStackSize. I have done that, but the error persists. This client machine can share successfully with the other Home system, and both that other system and the Pro system can see/open files and folders on the Home machine that gives the error.     - No video on start Hello group, Apologies if this post should be in "hardware". A friend has a one year old clone computer, windows XPPro sp2. I don't have the system details, but I believe it's a late model Intel CPU. He used it for flight simulator programs, so it's a pretty hefty system. He hasn't turned it on for several months, but the box hasn't been moved or damaged. On startup, there are three long BIOS beeps, and no video at all.I changed the monitor and that did not help. The fans are running. I assume the problem is something very basic, since video comes up so early in the startup process. Does anyone have any thoughts about where to look first for the problem? Obviously, I'd check for bad or poorly seated memory and visually for any bad connections to the motherboard. Is this a common problem? Thanks for any suggestions.     - 'Hibernate' mode My XP seems to have a mind of its own as to shutting monitor off and later putting OS into a power-down mode of some sort, so that when I hit the power button, it all comes back on fairly quickly to where it was.     - How to pick one item only from a PPS? Hello There, I have a Windows xp Media center. I have two questions. I received from a friend a PPS consisting of 20 picture pages which follow each other and one music which accompanies the whole of the PPS. Is there a way of separating the music and also picking one page from the remaining 19?     - WkDetect.exe How do I disable the WkDetect from running on my startup? I have Microsoft Works 2002 in my Dell Computer running Windows XP. I have tried to stop the WkDetect.exe from running by disabling it on the startup in the System Configuration Utility, but it always returns.     - Spybot S&D Shutting Down Windows Whenever I run Spybot Search and Destroy (Check for Problems), it gets about halfway through the program, then my computer shuts off.     - How To Clean Install Windows XP I want to clean install WindowsXP sp2 on a newly placed 160 GB SATA HD. This is not an upgrade, simply a redo to get back to ground zero. I use F12 to get to boot-up list choice, load the CD-ROM, but nothing happens when I hit Enter to choose to install WindowsXP sp2. Also nothing happens when I hit R to repair (or is it restore). Why? Or Work Around? Last week when the drive was blank, I formatted and installed with all the same hardware and the same Dell disc as now. What I'm doing now: With the current system up and running I insert the install disk (from Dell) in the CD-ROM drive and restart; hold F12 and choose CD-ROM drive from that list. It reaches a point where it says to install hit "Enter". (R-Repair and ?-quit) None of these work. I hit enter and wait 10 min with no change. So I shut the power off.     - internet zero traffic I have just built an AMD 64 X2 6000 and everything is A OK except for the Internet side__problem is that when trying to update my BIOS from ASUS using the auto method___ and trying to send info to Speedfan, thru the speedfan program__my Internet connection doesn't drop out but there is no traffic coming into or out of my computer___can lift up the phone and still find myself connected, but no matter how long I wait for resumption of service it will not return unless I reboot___I do not have any other problems with my dialup connection and am always connected at approx. 45Kbps and can stay connected all day with just a normal use__I.E. web surfing , mail, and downloading___I have been in touch with my ISP and he cannot fault my connection at his end_____drop outs are very few, and have not been an issue___I am using the same internal modem, HDD'drives from my original computer,the only problem I can see is the Speedfan info regarding and issue with : core temp : which is running at 71 deg Celsius __this is my new PCI-E graphics card______seems rather hot but is not giving any trouble (issues)______help required for this please With kind regards From WillofAustralia Tag: phillips digital media manager removal Tag: 314368

I got online and tried to update Windows with the latest service packs and during install of SP2 got a message that my software was not validated and it would not install.     - Setup oddities An XP install results in the following (partial) directory tree: \Windows \help \inf \system \system32 etc I have noticed that once everything\anything is installed there are instances where files do not end up where expected; for instance: *.chm, *.cnt, and *.hlp files not ending up in the \windows\help folder. Plus *.inf files not ending up in \windows\inf, *.dll not in \windows\system, and *32.dll not in windows\system32. Is there some kind of unknown requirement/procedure that is not being enforced/followed that causes this foolish discrepancy? It sure seems to be that it would be logical and make more sense for the files, as indicated above, to end up in the folders they seem to belong to by name and/or function.     - Standyby Fails For no particular reason, my computer (WinXP Home) suddenly won't stay in standby mode. When I give it the command (Start| Turn Off| Standby), it shuts off as expected. But about five seconds later it wakes itself up. I used to have this problem which back then was caused by a flawed HP printer driver. I'd get a message to the effect that this driver was preventing Standby. If I shut off the printer before giving the standby command, the computer would stay shut off. I have my Read Options applicable News set to get 300 headers at a time and I do not get anywhere near that number when I click on a subscribed Newsgroup.     - Hibernation after reboot I have an acer desktop that suddenly has started going into hibernation about 30 seconds or so after a reboot. If I wake it up, it goes into hibernation again. I can boot into safe mode and it does not do this.     - Uncontrollable Mouse I have a Dell Laptop with Windows XP-PRO installed. Every so often, the mouse seems to have a mind of its own and moves uncontrollable up and down and across the screen. This will last for about 1-2 minutes at a time and then goes back to normal. This happens whether I using the touch pad mouse on the laptop or if I connect an external mouse.     - Bad HDD or bad 'file data' Further to a recent posting where I reported what I thought was a bad HDD I'm now having second thoughts. The problem arises whenever I try to backup C:\ to Acronis software or indeed whenever I tried to copy all of C:\ drive to another drive - the process would freeze part way through and the only way to recover was to re-boot. Today I thought I'd run the Checkdisk routine from Win XP Tools. This breaks the process down into 5 steps. The first 3 steps ran through OK but the system froze at the 4th stage of the process where the 'file data' is being checked.     - Win Zipping I have a few very large files I want to send via email as a WinZip file. I want to be able to send the large files but do it in a way that for sending via email the file is compressed into a small one but upon the recipient receiving the email file, the unzipping will bring the files original sizes back.     - File association doesn't work I have Windows XP Professional and recently discovered that the file association of CAD .dwg files are no longer associated with inVisio my .dwg drawing viewer. The association worked previously. I then went to microsoft explorer and the Tools/folder Options/File Types menu and found that they were associated with Internet Explorer. After removing that association, I then restored the association to open the .dwg files with inVisio my drawing viewer program. The association is shown correctly under the Registered File types. When I click on the dwg extension in the list it correctly states that the dwg file opens with inVisio. However, when I click on a .dwg file, inVisio opens but states that it can not find the file. But, when I open the same file from within invisio it opens properly. I have an internal web site that requires the use of invisio to display .dwg files and they are no longer being displayed.
