can anyone help me out here? please!!!! I put my photo's in either documents
or pictures and try to open them with the paint program and it says this...
paint can not read this file. it is not a valid bitman file or it's format is
not currently supported. I do not know how to fix ...

Richt click the picture then point to "open with" then click on "choose
program" pick the application you want to use then check the box "all ways
use selected program to opet this type of file"

Each application can open files only of registered types,
e.g. MSPaint can open JPG, BMP, TIF and so on.

If you embed a picture (say JPG) in a DOC file, the filename
becomes DOC (or WPD, PDF, etc.) i.e. the document can be
opened only by those apps that can read DOC, WPD, PDF etc.
(But major word processors e.g. WORD can disassemble such
files, i.e. have a picture editing module built in.)

For theory, do / Start / Help / FILE EXTENSIONS / Associating with Programs.
For convenience, your PC should be set so that filetypes (extensions) are
visible:
see / Start / Help / FILE EXTENSIONS / Hiding, showing.

If this does not get you of the woods, repost here with details,
e.g. (1) what app you are trying to use on (2) what filetype.

Hi Kim and Thanks for your reply. Paint was not in the program files, so I
added it and it still wont let me use it. I have no other program for it (
free one anyway)...any suggestions? Thankyou

Another option would be to get IrfanView. It's free and does a lot more
than Paint.
