I built my PC from a kit of parts and installed an OEM copy of XP. At the
same time I bought a Wireless Optical Desktop set. I had some early problems
getting the PC up and running, but it is now 98% good. The two problems
remaining are these. The keyboard/mouse will not install no matter what I
try. They work fine on another PC, so are not faulty. The other possibly
related problem is with a USB SIM card reader which also will not install. In
each case I get 'New Hardware Wizard cannot find the necessary software.
Anyone got any ideas, or have I got to try a Repair Install?

Have you tried installing using other USB ports?
Have you looked in Device Manager at the USB root hubs and made sure they
work OK?
Did you have installtion CDs with the hardware?
Have you downloaded drivers from the manufacturer's website?
Do you have driver.cab in windows\driver cache\i386?
Do other USB devices work OK?

The CD with the set has never worked, and I have been unable to get
Microsoft to provide a replacement.

IP32Eng and ITP32Eng both version 6.2.29.0. I have just tried re-running
them, still no change.
> Do you have driver.cab in windows\driver cache\i386?
Yes, and SP2.cab
> Do other USB devices work OK?
Yes, apart from the SIM card reader.

Hope this sheds a bit of light!
