xp crashing

It keeps crashing every now and then when I start or close programs.
It's XP SP2. I think I should be able to look up event files or
something - where is it please?

Go to Control Panel and open the Administrative folder. Open Event Viewer. Look
under the Application and System branches for clues.

Please define "keeps crashing" as it applies to your specific
incident. Please include the complete verbatim text of any and all
error messages that are produced. Also please keep track of your
crash incidents as they occur, specifically making note of:
- the name of the program that triggered the error, and whether you
were opening or closing it at the time.
- the names of all other applications that were open at that specific
time.

There may be a pattern that can be detected from the accumulated data
regarding these errors.

I have spyware on my computer that is preventing it from working propely.
What do I need to do?

Let's work on one specific instance, see where it takes us. It crashes
routinely now when I put a dvd in.

Copy and paste from event viewer, right?

It happens with a load of them. I can maybe open a browser, close the
browser, it crashes, it doesn't crash. Open this program, that
program, it might or might not crash. That's why I'm thinking, go with
examining the behaviour loading CDs or DVDs because it's constant.

Loads of'em, all the time. This is a crowded machine.
