I am carrying my Windows XP home Dell laptop to travel to many international
countries. Most of these hotels have internet network access.

Can you tell me what is the best way for me to set up my system to access
internet. Most of my internet access are for Browser (either Firefox or
Microsoft Internet Explorer) and email - Microsoft Outlook 2003.

Do I need to change my network name for every hotel?
Do I need to change my Outlook email account?

Thank you.

No to both the last questions, more than likely. However - every hotel that
has Internet available will have instructions. One thing you DO what to be
sure of - your Internet Firewall is enabled.

As for Outlook configuration - ask those who manage your email account if
anything special (like a VPN through a firewall, RPC-over-HTTP setup, etc)
is necessary for you to maintain connectivity to the server during your
trip. If you merely POP your email - it is unlikely anything will be
necessary - but it is possible.

You must follow the Hotel's directions for this. Many will give you a
password, you must connect and then launch a browser and enter the password.

As to Outlook, the real issue is with your email server, not the client.
But it's a pretty safe bet that if you can now send and receive mail from
different locations, you will be fine. The issue that can arise is with
access to an ISP's mail-send server from outside of that ISP's network.
Many don't allow this, as it opens them to mail relaying and spamming. If
your outgoing mail server is on Port 25, you may have a problem, and the way
around it is to find another *outgoing* server that isn't on port 25, such
as the Gmail server.

Also, if I may add, turn off File and Printer if it's on. You can turn
it back on again when you return home.

Simply follow the instructions provided by each hotel. Each one will
be different, unless they're all part of the same chain.

Probably not. Simply follow the instructions provided by each hotel.

Sorry, dumb typo. I didn't notice it until your reply. That should be
"File and Printer *Sharing*." Help and Support will tell you how.
