An old question that I knew before, but I had to reload Windows XP,
and I just don't remember how to turn off Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer.

Please assist. Thanks!

Do you mean, not "turn off" but change the file associations of image files
such as .bmp, .jpg? If so go to Control Panel|Folder Options and change the
default file associations under "File Types". If you plan to display the
image files in another viewer such as Adobe Photoshop you may be able to
change the .jpg association under "Edit|Preferences|Files".

From what I remember, I just un-checked something (yet it's that way
for most things on WIndows you don't want). I prefer to disable it,
so I can use the old way of showing pictures together on the same
screen, but, access the P&FV once in a blue moon.

Thank you all!

I've been looking for a while - what is the path and file name of the
executable?

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer doesn't have stand alone executable file.
However, you can still create a shortcut for WPFV using the following
command line:

%systemroot%\system32\rundll32.exe
c:\windows\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen

However, this will be of no use as it will open WPFV with a blank window and
there will be no menu to choose what to do? But you can drag and drop files
over it to see the preview.

Hope this help, let us know!

Thanks. Programming in FoxPro, I usually allow the user to double-click on a
filename. FP recognizes the extension, then launches the executable and the
file, such as "PATH\WINWORD.EXE PATH\INVOICE1.DOC. Guess I'll have to use
MSPVIEW or something. Thanks!
