    - Viewing web pages offline PROBLEM Hi, Can anyone tell me what to do to be able to look offline at an Internet Explorer web page that I looked at previously but the system does not allow me to look at again without connecting inline. I get the message : Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage even though I set File > "Work Offline".     - user desktops Hello, our computer is set up on a network, Our IT dept. told us to log on, log off, and then log on again and that woould allow each person that logs on to have control of there own desktop. There are some files that we need to all have access to so I put a shortcut to that file in the C:\doc-settings all users desktop folder, and it worked fine everyone had access to it. but then someone decided they did not want it on there desktop so they deleted the shortcut and when they did it took it from all the other users desktops also.     - Error 2 whenever wireless internet is connected! Whenever my wireless internet is connected, a dialog box saying 'Runtime Error 2 at 00CA58CA' will be shown. If I click the 'OK' button, the whole desktop will disappear and comes back in seconds. But the 'Runtime Error' will come up again. I have to leave the dialog box aside to keep my Windows working.     - Need Confirmation Hi- My Broad Band service (Insight) was recently bought out by Comcast. I had changed the configuration for 'netnews' to the comcast.net settings and cannot get access to those groups with a message that the server could not be accessed. I did not change any settings on msnews.microsoft.com where this group exists. It is still on the old insight bb.com server. I have had many difficulties with trying to configure settings for Comcast as are many customers in my area too are having. It is a nightmare trying to get tech support. Hi, I am on a computer with windows XP Pro 5.1, it is connected to a network printer, the sharing tab says it's not a shared printer. Is there a way I can view a list of all the documents I sent to be printed yesterday? If I go to "printers and faxes/ printer tasks/see what's printing," I can only see documents that are being printed right now, but the print jobs disappear from the list when they are finished.     - A Few Group Policy Questions Hi everyone, I have an XP Pro SP2 machine that will be shared by several family members and I have a few questions about Group Policies. Active Directory is not involved here. In the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) I want to turn off IE's prompt to download ActiveX Controls. The setting for this is at: User Configuration Administrative Templates Windows Components Internet Explorer Security Features Restrict ActiveX Install Internet Explorer Process = Enabled After setting this policy I log off and then log back on but IE still prompts me to download ActiveX controls (Acrobate Reader, for example). It seems the GP setting is not taking affect. Any ideas why? A follow up question is this: My understanding is that, contrary to the name, "User Configuration" policies apply to *all* users, not individual users. So, setting the poilicy for one user account affects *all* accounts on the machine. If this is true, why does the Group Policy editor have separate sections for "User Configuration" and "System Configuration"? Perhaps it *is* possible to specify separate policies for different accounts. This is ultimately what I want to do. I have an idea on how to do this (by copying .pol files and invoking gpupdate.exe) but the fact that ActiveX installations cannot be turned off is stopping me dead in my tracks.     - Limit Alt+Tab display to one icon for each application in use I use the alt+tab to toggle between applications but find it tedious when the display of documents gets to more than about six. This happens when I have multiple documents from any given program open and each is displayed. I'd prefer to have one icon per operating application so I could go to, for example, Word or Adobe Reader or Excel or IE. Can I modify the display properties so that each application only shows one image regardless of how many files within that application are open?     - wrong & missing info-plez help Sorry if I posted here too. But no one was able to help.... I just got a new CD and wanted to rip the 14 tracks to my desktop pc, using WMP11. When the CD was inserted, i was surprised to see that it said unknown album/artist. I restarted the pc and started over again and this time, it listed all 14 tracks but the songs were 50% wrong in name. One song was listed 4 times (one of those misspelled), meaning some song titles were not even there. But nonetheless, it showed 14 tracks. I then got on my laptop. It did the same thing. My kid told me she wanted to try Itunes and it was shown fine there; songs in order with the correct name once and not 4 times. BTW, when i tried using WMP11, i couldnt find the part that says to look up info so that abum art and info. Normally, shouldnt this be done automatically when a store purchased CD is inserted?     - how to move preinstalled programs from old computer to new one Hello I am hoping someone can please help me? I have a new computer. A Dell which is running windows xp. I have an old compter an e-machines which is running windows ME. I love my old computer and the preloaded programs like microsoft works. I am giving my old computer to my roomate. She has never use a computer before and wants to learn. This older computer is loaded to the gills and is a great computer to start with. On my dell it is pretty much bare. I want to transfer programs like microsoft works to my new computer that are preloaded on the old computer. How if at all can I do this? I have Norton ghost I can use and an additonal external hard drive to use. Also I would like to if possible update the old system with the XP from the Dell. This was also preloaded.     - Searching Network drive in WinXP On a user's laptop, he goes out to a network drive to Search for a particular file type, by clicking on the Start Button, going to Find Files or folders then entering the file spec (*.dwg) and chooses a particular Network drive. The results are returned instantaneously. There are no files in the returned results. The odd thing is that I can find files of that type on the drive. The other noteworthy aspect is that I can search other network drives or his local drives and find files of that type. The search utility takes an appropriate amount of time. Any ideas?     - screen resolution I'm wondering if anyone could help: My screen resolution is locked on the lowest setting 800x600 pixels. Every time I try and move the setting to the highest, the screen goes weird and there is a partial view of a box in the far top left corner of the screen. After a few seconds, the screen goes black and then goes back to the "normal" low res screen. Also, I have noticed that on the display properties and settings screen, in the scroll down menu, it has the option of; 1. Plug and Play Monitor on ATI Radeon X300/X550/1050 Series 2.     - Re-Registering a .dat File ???- Need Help Please hi all. i just transfered this question from what i posted in the plus newsgroup & also the windows xp help & support newsgroup. it's been posted 6+wks. @ both of those without a reply. i'm hoping this may be a more appropriate place & finally lead to a solution. any help is definitely appreciated as i've actually been dealing with this for a couple of years. anyway, here's a little background:after literally countless hrs. & being bounced around the globe(dept.>dept. a dozen + times), ms offshore support was all of 0% help. the upside: it's nice to see their english improving slightly. can anyone sense my frustration?? the product i'm actually dealing with is ms plus! digital media edition, but i'm guessing this situation pertains to other programs as well. i use the alarms program of this software & rely on it daily. occasionally i lose my alarms that i have set & am using with this program. they vanish & i'm just left with the bare program as if i just installed it without any of my alarms in place. the file the alarms are stored in is "MyAlarms.dat the location is: C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\Microsoft\Plus! Digital Media Edition\Alarm Clock the MyAlarm.dat folder, ends up with 0kb of data in it so i do know they have disappeared from that file as well as the user interface of my alarm program. if i copy the MyAlarms.dat file, while my alarms are intact & try to restore the copied file after my alarms disappear, i'm unable to register it back into the program. i can copy that file by right clicking\copy or dragging to a backup folder i use & selecting copy. when i choose to restore it to the proper location it appears all is well but none of my alarms appear in the program. i've searched my complete computer including the registry for all instances of the MyAlarms file while it is working properly & cannot find any instances of it other than the location stated above. evidently though, it or whatever file it's somehow related to must be hidden elsewhere & by me replacing it from the backup copy, it is not re-associating itself correctly. it would seem to me that file or some other file that is required is hidden somewhere (possibly in the registry ?). if so, how i may go about finding the location & name of the file\files involved so i may associate or re-register it in hopes of restoring these alarms? someone previously suggested this program may link through the windows media player, but i've been unable to find any association to myalarms.dat file to win media player. plus! alarm is associated with media player in the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\UIPlugins\ {C6368CEC-5205-4398-8CC3-2B98650F60DF} \Capabilities\80000002 \ControlPanelDescription\Sets alarms that play audio content from Windows Media Player. \Description\Set an alarm for any time and day by using your music and audio content in Windows Media Player. FriendlyName\Plus! Alarm Clock it appears to me to have an association for sound. There are also these keys, as examples, but i see nothing apparent: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Alarm.Plugin HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Alarm.Plugin.1 HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AlarmClockProps.AlarmClockProperties HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AlarmClockProps.AlarmClockProperties.1 HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{1B37A914-56AA-4912-8009-B1FA744140B6} HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{AEECED7F-B400-4AA7-8D80-85981D10F4C0} HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\AlarmClock.DLL HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\AlarmClockProps.DLL HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{3FB269FA-34D5-47B9-AB06-42592BBFCC05} i read somewhere that ms hides .dat files in the registry. how i go about finding where & how to re-register\associate this file with whatever other file\files that are required, if that's the case, is beyond me. i've spent literally hours searching ms & google & can find no help. as mentioned, i previously talked to ms regarding what file these alarms were stored in & they had no clue. even the existence of the MyAlarms.dat file that i myself found eluded them. finding the actual non-hidden file MyAlarms.dat that stores these alarms is as far as i've gotten. Being able to restore MyAlartms.dat from my backed up file would save me from having to re-enter 40-50 alarms manually 6-7x a yr. i do really like this alarm clock(except for the major bug that allows these alarms to just vanish) & it is a piece of software i paid for & expect to work properly. i would expect ms to support this product by making available the process of backing these up or at least making the location of this type of file critical to the function of this program available to their own support people when referenced. i guess i expect to much. i do apologize for the minor rant to any ms employee that is able & willing take the time to help me with this problem, i know this less than stellar product has been shoved to the end of it's short life cycle by ms & it is no longer available, but as stated previously, ms has been absolutely zero help from the day this was purchased(key word: as in paid for w\my hard earned cash) & i've been trying to find a way to back my alarms up for literally years now. i do apologize for such a long post, but i just want to provide as much info as possible in hopes of finding a solution. once again, any help at all is very much appreciated.     - Temperature limit for storing CD's/DVD's Hi everyone, Sorry if this is off topic but I hope someone can answer this for me. I will be moving and will be having movers pack, move, and store my stuff in a warehouse in Texas and I am sure it could get up to around 125 to 140 inside one of those metal enclosed storage units (non air conditioned). Could you please tell me what the recommended maximum storage temperature is for CD's and DVD's. I know a lot of people leave them in locked up cars with the windows up, and it could easily get up to 125 degrees inside of a locked up car with the sun beaming down. Would they deteriorate more, the longer you left them at a high temperature (say if I had some discs stored in the warehouse for three months or something like that). To secure it, i have installed the PC Tools Internet suite, and also the Windows Defender antispy. Both PCT Internet Suite (its component named Threat Fire) and Windows Defender are heuristic.     - Rundll - error loading ctccw32.dll Hello, My new laptop seems to have developed the following error each time I start up: "Rundll - error loading ctccw32.dll". Whilst by just clicking on the "OK" button to make it disappear, it's knowing that the system is not running correctly that's annoying. Can anyone advise how this can be corrected please?     - Suite Integration Toolkit When I shut XP down yesterday, I was told that it was going to install an update unless I clicked "close without installing update" I clicked this and it seems that XP installed it anyway. Today, Zone Alarm Pro is telling me that something called Suite Integration ToolKit is trying to access the Internet. After I deny that, I get Microsoft Installer is trying to access the Internet. What is this Suite Integration Toolkit? Also I am getting a pop up that says "the update was almost complete, but you need to restart your computer" I have googled Suite Integration Toolkit and most all the posts are old.     - Out of memory for image display I normally have 2GB of RAM but just now I am testing the four sticks by only inserting one 512K at a time. Now I thought that if XP required more memory it would use its page file and if the page file was not large enough it would increase it automatically as long as the default settings were in place. Today I tried to open an Outlook 2007 email which contained a 650K photo attachment.     - How to reinstall failed updates?? I have discovered that I have 2 XP Home updates from February that are listed as "Failed" in my Windows update log. I would like to correct the situation by installing them but I can't locate them among the Microsoft web pages. I followed a few links from the update log but they only took me to the Microsoft Update sign-up page and I don't want or need that as I don't use Office or Word . A computer club member's computer will not print any information from a web
page on either an HP Laser Jet 1200 or an HP Desk Jet 882C . Win XP, SP2.

Printing is normal from Office Word and Excel and from Notepad. When one
chooses Print Preview from the File drop down menu, the preview page is
blank. When I chose to select several lines from the page, and indicated to
print Selection, nothing prints - not even a blank page...

Any thoughts?
