Is there a program, someplace, that will tell me which of my files is
accessing the internet while I'm doing something else -- almost anything
else?

All that disc activity while I'm working is driving me nuts. Maybe it
shouldn't, but it is and I'd give almost anything to find out what's causing
it.

Thanx.

Almost all third party firewalls will give you that information or you
can use port monitoring utilities like WireShark or Nirsoft's CurrPorts
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html or SysInternals TCPView
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437.aspx

Many thanks, John. I've made a copy of your response and I'll take a look at
all of the suggestions, probably tomorrow. I'd do it now but we're in the
midst of a spring snowstorm and I'm gonna have to crank up the snow blower
pretty soon. The boss says that takes precedence and, if I want to eat, I
hafta work. Not that you wanted to hear 'bout all that but I thought I'd
just throw it in.

Thanx again.

What's driving Claude nut's is disk activity, that got now't to to
with the 'net,

Malware scanners (virus, spyware etc), desktop search engines, file
indexers, personal information managers, ....., will all generate disk
IO but they dont need to access the 'net.

What Claude needs is SysInternals (now owned by Microsoft) FILEMON. He
can get it via this <
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/sysinternals/default.aspx> link.

FILEMON shows which programs are accessing what on the disks
