Can anyone give me advise where I can buy a new or refurbished computer with
XP. My 5 year old HP motherboard is going. I am afraid of getting a new one
with Vista. This is for my home so I dont want to lease it. I want to go
somewhere reliable and not have to spend alot of money. I was thinking
between $250-$400.00. I think I just need a tower I have a monitor and
printer which are about 5 years old also, but they work okay. Thank you.

Certain Dells may still be purchased with XP. See:

Without knowing which country you are in it's pretty difficult for us to
give you advice. A good place to start would be to go right to the
major manufacturers' web sites and see if they have any offerings for
used or refurbished computers. Most of the majors like IBM, Lenovo,
Dell, HP, etc, have refurbished for sale on their web sites.

I've been reading today that very low cost PCs will still be made
available with XP as an option, Microsoft are allowing this.

Windows Vista is a great system when it is installed in the computer by the
manufacturer! Would you buy a 1930 Chevy?

In New York city there are *lots* of places to get good second hand
computers! In the US there are lots of good places to get second hand
computers.

IBM US has a nice Xeon Intellistation with XP Pro here for only $309:
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=4611686018425726550&storeId=1&langId=-1&categoryId=2576395&dualCurrId=73&catalogId=-840
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=1&catalogId=-840&langId=-1&categoryId=2576395

I have bought used computers from these folks in the past and I have be
satisfied with their service:
http://www.securelaptopcomputersales.com/securestore.net/ Try to select
form the Class A or factory refurbished and you should be able to get a
reasonable decent machine for about $300. These guys have a warehouse
in NYC. Do a bit of searching on the net and you will find other places
like those.

As for Vista, I would say that few $200 to $400 second hands will even
be offered with it, Vista is better suited for the newer more powerful
machines.

Apparently that is to say, if you want a top notch computer you have to
get a bottom notch OS on it.

If Obama becomes president the media will then try to destroy him simply because he is president,
just as they did so very well with Bush.

Vista is the world today!. Or just get a new motherboard and you will still
have your 7 year old operating system...
