I am considering buying a new desktop running Vista.
Can I tranfer my accounts programs to a new pc eventhough
I dont have any orignal disks?I dont see setting my old HD as a slave as
being option
as the desktop I was looking at will be sata drives only. Thanks for some
advise.

No, with a new PC you will need the install CD for each program you wish to
use on the new PC,
that is if the version of the program(s) you currently use support Vista.

Most likely you will need to upgrade to the latest version of at least some
of the
software applications you are using on your XP machine to gain Vista
compatibility.
(make certain that the software vendor states support for Vista).

Your programs cannot be transferred, they need to be freshly installed.
It's possible some of your apps would have to be upgraded to run on Vista...
though for the most part...most newer software should be OK

I guess you need to examine if you really need a new PC right now...
and if so, figure-in the price of purchasing the applications you'll need

Almost certainly not.

However, you may be able to download an installer from the Web site
of the company that made the programs, as long as you still have your
product key. It's even possible, depending on the company, that
their customer service folks could look up the code for you.

No. All installed programs (except for an occasional very small one)
have files and pointers to them within Windows, in the registry and
elsewhere. So if you aren't running the Windows copy they were
installed under, the pointers and files aren't available and the
programs won't run. Apps have to be reinstalled from the
original media.

Even if you did, it wouldn't work. You'd still have to reinstall them.

Right. It isn't, even if you could do that. The programs have to be
reinstalled.
