Everytime I click on 'Start' it tells me there are new programs installed.
there are no new programs installed to my knowledge ( well sometimes there
are). It then goes away for a while but returns all the time.
Any help please

Right-click a blank area of the task bar
Left-click "Properties"
"Start Menu" tab
"Customize" button
"Advanced" tab
Take the tick out of "Highlight newly installed programs".
OK your way out.

That said, if you're being notified of the presence (or updating) of new
programs installed that you didn't know about, you should investigate that
first...
