I install the sound drivers ok and the 'logoff' sound, sounds, but then
after a reboot the sound has gone again. It is via 823x .
The sound under Device manager are all installed ok and under 'sounds' in
control panel, the small test icon displays and works with each of the
windows sounds but nothing is heard. I have removed the file from the M/Bd
Cd for that chipset and ut it on the H/D and if I reinstall fro there (no
reboot required) it works fine. But next time I reboot it's gone again.Any
help please

Check BIOS settings for Sound-on-Board.
What you describe might be caused by:
1. SoB set DISabled in BIOS thus no sound after reboot.
2. Reinstal SoB software (overriding #1)
so that sound works fine
3. and vanishes on next reboot cf. #1.

Sorry but there doesn't seem to be any command in the bios for sound, so
that drew a blank.
There is just something in XP Pro with SP2 that is turning it off after
closing down.
The main M/B is KM266-8235 and all the multimedia is loaded ok. I do use a
Capture card so other media seems to be included, like BtCap WDM Audio and
Video etc and then it says "via Ac'97 Enhanced Audio Controller" Now I'm
sure all this was there before. I have just reformated the drive and
reinstalled Xp after maybe five to six years so previous problems, if any,
have been forgotten.
I now have a shortcut on the desktop with the nessessary files from the CD
so I can just reinstal the divers without a reboot....a real pain.
Thanks for any other suggestions

Just disable the on=board sound in the bios. And buy a used Creative
sound card like ES1373 and plug into computer.

Yes I think that is the best suggestion. Had thought of that, thanks. I
think they work better than the onboard sound anyway.
