    - copying files over 64 kb in size to My Book gets "The request could I've been trying to copy files to a western digital 1 terabyte external hard drive. When I try to copy a file larger then 63kb I get the following message: "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." The drive works fine on another computer.     - Coosing default Bullets Does anyone know how to choose the default bullets? My default bullets got changed so that the "Close Windows" "X" that normally appears in the Top Right Corner of each window is now a box and arrows on menus are now little mouse symbols. How is this controlled? It is not in the "Appearance" menu and it is not a problem with the loaded fonts. Is there supposed to be a "Bullets" subkey in my registry, and, if so, where?     - labels under desktop icons I used to have tannish-gray horizontal boxes with black outlines and black letters under my desktop icons, and I liked them. About a week ago, after a Windows update, these changes to bright neon blue boxes with white letters and without borders.     - Microsoft Document Imaging (MDI) just Discovered I am brand new to the built-in XP Microsoft Docuemnt Imaging tool. It is my understanding now that a multiple sheet FAX (tif) or several scanned document may be manipulated by the XP MDI tool. Until now, I have been scanning individual sheet documents and saving as jpeg files with page 1, page 2, etc. With MDI, will I be able to merge additionally scanned in document sheets into an existing MDI file ? For example, I try to keep a running file on one of the several medical clinics that I visit. Once I have scanned in several sheets and closed the first MDI file, will I be able to append additional informational sheets into that existing MDI file ? Also, are the files created with use of MDI readable from other image viewers, such as IrfanView: will either application be able to pull in and display their inddependantly produced TIF files ? Also, is is possible to get a TIF image that is saved on disc into a MDI (empty) window, e.i., without scanning the original paper document? Thanks.     - Why The Need To Reboot ? I was on a website when I clicked a link and could go nowhere. Got the message "Firefox cannot find the server...." Also, received the same message trying to return to my homepage. So, Closed the browser, deleted cookies, history, etc. and tried to return to my homepage. Got the same message as above.     - Monitor Settings? I am using Windows XP Home Edition, and browse with both IE7 and the latest version of FireFox. While adjusting my monitorI must have chosen a setting that caused a display problem. For example, if I browse to www.clusty.com I am unable to view the blue bar or the "Clusty" patch logo - but everything else is still there. Another example is www.abstractfonts.com. With this website I can view everything except the font list examples. Instead of sample fonts I only see empty white boxes where the sample fonts should be. I just attempted to install SyncToy V1.4, but a window popped up advising me "This setup requires the .NET Framework version 2.0.50727."     - IE7 This is a continuation of a post on 3-7-08 with PA Bear. Greetings: I just installed the new IE7 on my Dell Dimensions 2400. It works, but not too well. It has slowed my computor down. When I click Start it is several seconds before the menu appears. Sometime it will not appear at all. When it does and I am able to open a program it will open partiatially along with two or three other programs that I did not ask for. They are in pieces. They will not close. Then I may get a box telling me the program is not responding. I just put a new Seagate Hard Drive in for these same reasons. I was advised by members of the Dell forum that the HD was the culprit. It apparently was not. It appears IE7 is the culptit. It works properly with IE6. I like IE7 and would like to keep it but not under these conditions.     - Hardware Monitor found an error Hi..this morning after waking up, I found my computer frozen, and was forced to at first restart which let me to a screen that told me Hardware Monitor found an error and to click F! to continue.. I was not able to get F1 to respond, and after trying a couple of times to turn off my computer manually, I was finally able to get to a screen where Chkdsk was checking for errors.. it seemed to fix them, finding several minor errors and even an error in a gif file. Can someone tell me if there is something I can do to fix the problem or if chkdsk corrected the errors, and is everything ok now??? :) sure hope so! Appreciate any response, thanks Rainy..     - Missing dll files in Temp folder Windows XP SP2 - 1 user account and 1 admin account The user account was infected on 2 April, probably with virtumonde. Between Norton and SpyBot it seems to have been fixed. In the course of working the problem, I manually deleted numerous files from various temporary folders, especially exe and dll files modified at the time of infection. Now when I log on to that account, I get three small pop-up windows alerting me that files C:\Docume~1\Barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\hgGyWOFu.dll C:\Docume~1\Barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\Yjgldenv.dll C:\Docume~1\Barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\awtutUNh.dll could not be found. I assume no real system file is ever stored in a user's temporary folder. Everything seems to work after acknowledging the alerts so I'm hoping these files were part of the virus. I assume the alerts are the result of some residual crap in the registry. Can someone tell me how to get rid of the alerts?     - XP Installation problems- please help! I have a laptop which was runnning Windows 2000 and I'm trying to install Windows XP on it. I did manage to get it on but I must have made some mistake somewhere as on startup it was giving me the option to boot into either XP or Windows 2000. Before explaining the current status I should just explain exactly what I'd like to acheive ideally. One hard drive (C) with the full amount of storage space (10GB) running Windows XP. That's it! Nothing more, nothing less. So I have tried to do a few things- deleting partition, re-installing XP and now I'm really confused! When I startup now, I get 3 choices from the boot screen: Windows XP Home Edition Windows 2000 Professional Windows XP Setup If I select Windows XP Home Edition it says: Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. COuld not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documemntation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information. If I select Windows 2000 Professional it gets me into Windows 2000. If I go to Computer Management>Disk Management there it reads: C: 5GB FAT32 - Primary Partition Unallocated 4.36GB Right-clicking on either of these doesn't give me an option to either delete or format. If I try Windows XP Home Edition Setup it says: Welcome to Setup To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER Insert the CD labeled Windows XP Home Edition CD ROM I then put in the disk and press enter. I then get the following screen: The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer 9586MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MPR] C: Partition1 (VAIONOTE) [FAT32] 5122MB 979MB free Unpartioned space 4463MB If I press 'D' on C, it says: Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the slected partition.     - Internet time Hi, My Dell XP (0.5 year old) has a problem in its clock. It always gives me wrong time. It happens even after I manually change the time. Eventually I have to download a utility that is scheduled to automatically adjust time several times a day. But still the computer still switches time to a wrong one sometimes. I try to check and uncheck different options (e.g. "automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes", "automatically adjust clock via internet") in XP's "date and time properties" dialog.     - Problem opening a picture in an email I have two computers, each using Outlook Express 6 and WindowsXP Home. On each I tried opening a picture embedded in an email by right clicking the picture and selecting Save As. On computer 1, the file opens "Save Picture" and allows a normal save as JPEG. On computer 2, I get an error message. "Can't find the file specified". The help button identifies the missing file as c:\windows\sysyem32\mshtml.hlp I checked both computers' folders and find that each contains two files: mshtml.dll and mshtml.tlb.     - White screen freeze Hi my lap top has devleoped some problem on boot up. It just freezes onto a white screen on boot up before I see any graphics. It looks as though it can access the DVD/CD drive but any attempt to boot up with a recovery disc fails in the same white screen and it freezes. I have tried the manufacturers advice as powering up with the F12 key pressed and another suggestion on the CD to hold the C key down whislt turning on the power brings the same result. Nothing bu the white screen. I have treid F8 to see if I can get into safe mode but it won't move on past the initial clunking of the drives and then silence. I can't think of any way to get this to allow me to move on. I am sure you can though? I would be happy to format and reload but if I can't access the drive then how can I do that? I've tried formatting the disk and using it right out of the box. No difference. I am able to use The Win media player to burn CD's any idea what's going on?     - Properties menus I have 2 computers a Dell desktop and a Gateway laptop. When I right click My Computer to get system information on the Dell I get a box with 7 tabs: General, Computer name, Hardware, system restore Automatic update, remote and advanced. When i do the same on the laptop I get a simple "my computer properties" with three tabs: General, shortcut and Security. Both computers are running XP 2002 SP2. Any idea why the same action produces different results? Its frustrating because I have to dig in to Control Panel to perform the same functions as i do on the desktop.     - I need help with the Windows XP Service Pack 2!! I recently started getting a lot of spyware, adware, and trojan horses on my computer. I then went online and bought Norton 360, but it could not finish downloading because my computer told me I needed to download Windows XP Service Pack 2. I went to the Microsoft website to get the service pack, and everything was fine until it finished. When it finished, the webpage displayed a message saying something along the line of "this webpage cannot be displayed" and so on and so forth. I tried other service pack links to download, and none of them have worked out. All I am trying to do is finish downloading my Norton 360, which so far I haven't been able to do.     - Read Only Permission on Removable Storage Been using a USB 125mb stick for sometime. Out of the blue it responded that the Media was write protected when i tried to save something to it. Only about 20mb used, and all folders and files are reading ok, and I can copy them. When I open properties on the stick, I do not see a Security tab, so I can't change permissions. I am running XP with plenty of memory, etc on the computer.

When I now open some websites that I have used for years, I don't get all of
the graphics and get a not at the bottom, "Page opened with some errors."
These are trusted, reputable websites I have opened before with no problem.

Last week I down loaded Spybot. Could that be the culprit? Other than that
no changes.

Did a restore to before I downloaded Spybot and that did not help.

Hi,
IE6 or IE7?

Are you using the Immunize (hosts file) feature of Spybot? that might be
blocking some images.

Well one thing that might help is cleaning out your browsers cache weekly.
Go to in Internet Explorer tools, internet options, delete, delete files, ok
Then go to history, delete history, ok. Let me know if that helps. From
the symptoms you described it is probably not spyware although Spy Bot is a
very good program and you should do a full sweep with that first just to be
sure and then however frequently you like after that. Let me know if that
