    - IE offline viewing of web page problem Hi, Can anyone tell me what to do to be able to look offline at an Internet Explorer web page that I looked at previously but the system does not allow me to look at again without connecting inline. I get the message : Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage even though I set File > "Work Offline".     - Re-Registering a .dat File ???- Need Help Please hi all. i just transfered this question from what i posted in the plus newsgroup & also the windows xp help & support newsgroup. it's been posted 6+wks. @ both of those without a reply. i'm hoping this may be a more appropriate place & finally lead to a solution. any help is definitely appreciated as i've actually been dealing with this for a couple of years. anyway, here's a little background:after literally countless hrs. & being bounced around the globe(dept.>dept. a dozen + times), ms offshore support was all of 0% help. the upside: it's nice to see their english improving slightly. can anyone sense my frustration?? the product i'm actually dealing with is ms plus! digital media edition, but i'm guessing this situation pertains to other programs as well. i use the alarms program of this software & rely on it daily. occasionally i lose my alarms that i have set & am using with this program. they vanish & i'm just left with the bare program as if i just installed it without any of my alarms in place. the file the alarms are stored in is "MyAlarms.dat the location is: C:\Documents and Settings\Family\Application Data\Microsoft\Plus! Digital Media Edition\Alarm Clock the MyAlarm.dat folder, ends up with 0kb of data in it so i do know they have disappeared from that file as well as the user interface of my alarm program. if i copy the MyAlarms.dat file, while my alarms are intact & try to restore the copied file after my alarms disappear, i'm unable to register it back into the program. i can copy that file by right clicking\copy or dragging to a backup folder i use & selecting copy. when i choose to restore it to the proper location it appears all is well but none of my alarms appear in the program. i've searched my complete computer including the registry for all instances of the MyAlarms file while it is working properly & cannot find any instances of it other than the location stated above. evidently though, it or whatever file it's somehow related to must be hidden elsewhere & by me replacing it from the backup copy, it is not re-associating itself correctly. it would seem to me that file or some other file that is required is hidden somewhere (possibly in the registry ?). if so, how i may go about finding the location & name of the file\files involved so i may associate or re-register it in hopes of restoring these alarms? someone previously suggested this program may link through the windows media player, but i've been unable to find any association to myalarms.dat file to win media player. plus! alarm is associated with media player in the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\UIPlugins\ {C6368CEC-5205-4398-8CC3-2B98650F60DF} \Capabilities\80000002 \ControlPanelDescription\Sets alarms that play audio content from Windows Media Player. \Description\Set an alarm for any time and day by using your music and audio content in Windows Media Player. Being able to restore MyAlartms.dat from my backed up file would save me from having to re-enter 40-50 alarms manually 6-7x a yr. i do really like this alarm clock(except for the major bug that allows these alarms to just vanish) & it is a piece of software i paid for & expect to work properly. i would expect ms to support this product by making available the process of backing these up or at least making the location of this type of file critical to the function of this program available to their own support people when referenced. i guess i expect to much. i do apologize for the minor rant to any ms employee that is able & willing take the time to help me with this problem, i know this less than stellar product has been shoved to the end of it's short life cycle by ms & it is no longer available, but as stated previously, ms has been absolutely zero help from the day this was purchased(key word: as in paid for w\my hard earned cash) & i've been trying to find a way to back my alarms up for literally years now. i do apologize for such a long post, but i just want to provide as much info as possible in hopes of finding a solution. once again, any help at all is very much appreciated.     - Temperature limit for storing CD's/DVD's Hi everyone, Sorry if this is off topic but I hope someone can answer this for me. I will be moving and will be having movers pack, move, and store my stuff in a warehouse in Texas and I am sure it could get up to around 125 to 140 inside one of those metal enclosed storage units (non air conditioned). Could you please tell me what the recommended maximum storage temperature is for CD's and DVD's. I know a lot of people leave them in locked up cars with the windows up, and it could easily get up to 125 degrees inside of a locked up car with the sun beaming down. Would they deteriorate more, the longer you left them at a high temperature (say if I had some discs stored in the warehouse for three months or something like that).     - Heuristic Malware Security: Cmpatable?; ADVISE on specific I have a Dell Dimension 3000 running XP with SP 2. To secure it, i have installed the PC Tools Internet suite, and also the Windows Defender antispy. Both PCT Internet Suite (its component named Threat Fire) and Windows Defender are heuristic. QUESTION: (1) are all heuristic security applications compatable? ; (2) I am considering also adding Dr. Web Cure It--is it compatable?; (4) I want some very light weight and intuitive heuristic apps--can you ADVISE on light weight and intuitive heuristic apps?     - Rundll - error loading ctccw32.dll Hello, My new laptop seems to have developed the following error each time I start up: "Rundll - error loading ctccw32.dll". Whilst by just clicking on the "OK" button to make it disappear, it's knowing that the system is not running correctly that's annoying. Can anyone advise how this can be corrected please?     - Suite Integration Toolkit When I shut XP down yesterday, I was told that it was going to install an update unless I clicked "close without installing update" I clicked this and it seems that XP installed it anyway. Today, Zone Alarm Pro is telling me that something called Suite Integration ToolKit is trying to access the Internet. After I deny that, I get Microsoft Installer is trying to access the Internet. What is this Suite Integration Toolkit? Also I am getting a pop up that says "the update was almost complete, but you need to restart your computer" I have googled Suite Integration Toolkit and most all the posts are old.     - Out of memory for image display I normally have 2GB of RAM but just now I am testing the four sticks by only inserting one 512K at a time. Now I thought that if XP required more memory it would use its page file and if the page file was not large enough it would increase it automatically as long as the default settings were in place. Today I tried to open an Outlook 2007 email which contained a 650K photo attachment. I got a message from my viewer which is IrfanView: D:\IE temp files\Temporary Internet Files\Content:Outlook\Beemer_20080408_6533_email.jpg : Decode error !     - How to reinstall failed updates?? I have discovered that I have 2 XP Home updates from February that are listed as "Failed" in my Windows update log. I would like to correct the situation by installing them but I can't locate them among the Microsoft web pages. I followed a few links from the update log but they only took me to the Microsoft Update sign-up page and I don't want or need that as I don't use Office or Word . I'm happy with the Windows Update service. Can someone point me in the right direction to reacquire 2 of the Feb. 2008 updates?     - Windows Explorer stops responding Clean install of XP Pro SP2 - no patches, no AV. Have added to a domain and can browse the domain shares.     - Removing "Install" from "Shut Off" icon I have purchased a new notebook running XP Home SP2. I have set my Windows Updates options to "notify but do not download/install". When I use "Start >> Turn Off" to shut down the system, I notice that the "Turn Off" icon that next appears in the "Turn Off Computer" pop-up has a "Security Center" shield attached to its upper right corner and a text that explains that Windows will install downloaded updates when the icon is clicked unless I select the option (also in this text) shut down with installing. My desktop (running the same OS) does not have this option and I would like to remove it from my notebook. I cannot locate any setting that would do so. The Windows firewall is disabled in favor of another firewall. I am the only user account on the system so I assume that I have administrative rights.     - XP Backup Program I'm looking for opinions on the "Ntbackup.exe" program built in to XP Pro. Has anyone used this? I need to do more frequent backups for my business and I'm thinking of purchasing an external hard drive and do the automated backups that XP Pro provides.     - Missing addresses in Word mail I was trying to apply an address from my mail address book to a letter I am about to send out and discovered that all of the addresses have been wiped out. All that is left is an Outlook Express list of my email addresses. I believe that I have these addresses saved a s part of a back-up, but I can't figure out where to look for them.     - Cannot get out of safe mode I have recently returned home from being away for 5 months to find that the computer was running in safe mode. I have asked the other members of my family what had happened and they didn't believe that they had done anything to cause it although they had removed some programmes. I have tried starting up the computer, tapping F8 and starting windows in normal mode which didnt work, and then i tried changing settings on msconfig which didn't work.     - Some websites now not opening properly I am running XP with plenty of memory, etc on the computer. When I now open some websites that I have used for years, I don't get all of the graphics and get a not at the bottom, "Page opened with some errors."     - copying files over 64 kb in size to My Book gets "The request could I've been trying to copy files to a western digital 1 terabyte external hard drive. When I try to copy a file larger then 63kb I get the following message: "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." The drive works fine on another computer.     - Coosing default Bullets Does anyone know how to choose the default bullets? My default bullets got changed so that the "Close Windows" "X" that normally appears in the Top Right Corner of each window is now a box and arrows on menus are now little mouse symbols.     - Microsoft Document Imaging (MDI) just Discovered I am brand new to the built-in XP Microsoft Docuemnt Imaging tool. It is my understanding now that a multiple sheet FAX (tif) or several scanned document may be manipulated by the XP MDI tool. Until now, I have been scanning individual sheet documents and saving as jpeg files with page 1, page 2, etc. With MDI, will I be able to merge additionally scanned in document sheets into an existing MDI file ? For example, I try to keep a running file on one of the several medical clinics that I visit. Once I have scanned in several sheets and closed the first MDI file, will I be able to append additional informational sheets into that existing MDI file ? Also, are the files created with use of MDI readable from other image viewers, such as IrfanView: will either application be able to pull in and display their inddependantly produced TIF files ? Also, is is possible to get a TIF image that is saved on disc into a MDI (empty) window, e.i., without scanning the original paper document? Thanks.     - Turning off the hard disk Hi, I would like to save power and also not to repeat having to replace both my fans, as happened on my previous computer, by using the "turn off hard disk" feature reached from "Control Panel"> "Power Options" after 1 hour, say, but my book does not explain what do I do to "get the power back on". 1) Do I just press a key on the keyboard, say 2) Is the state of the system then still there so I can continue my work or do I need to do something else ?     - Why The Need To Reboot ? I was on a website when I clicked a link and could go nowhere. Got the message "Firefox cannot find the server...." Also, received the same message trying to return to my homepage. So, Closed the browser, deleted cookies, history, etc. and tried to return to my homepage. Got the same message as above.     - Monitor Settings? I am using Windows XP Home Edition, and browse with both IE7 and the latest version of FireFox. While adjusting my monitorI must have chosen a setting that caused a display problem. For example, if I browse to www.clusty.com I am unable to view the blue bar or the "Clusty" patch logo - but everything else is still there. Another example is www.abstractfonts.com. With this website I can view everything except the font list examples. Instead of sample fonts I only see empty white boxes where the sample fonts should be.     - Ethernet Adapters A while back my onboard VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter stopped working, so I went out and bought a new one.. a Linksys LNE 100TX (v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter which is enabled in device manager..     - .NET Framework Question I'm running WXP Pro Version 2002 Svc Pack 2. I just attempted to install SyncToy V1.4, but a window popped up advising me "This setup requires the .NET Framework version 2.0.50727." It offered me a link, but the link was broken and I was redirected to a web page with multiple choices, none of which I understand.     - IE7 This is a continuation of a post on 3-7-08 with PA Bear. Greetings: I just installed the new IE7 on my Dell Dimensions 2400. It works, but not too well. It has slowed my computor down. When I click Start it is several seconds before the menu appears. Sometime it will not appear at all. When it does and I am able to open a program it will open partiatially along with two or three other programs that I did not ask for. They are in pieces. They will not close. Then I may get a box telling me the program is not responding. I just put a new Seagate Hard Drive in for these same reasons. I was advised by members of the Dell forum that the HD was the culprit. It apparently was not. It appears IE7 is the culptit. It works properly with IE6. I like IE7 and would like to keep it but not under these conditions.     - Hardware Monitor found an error Hi..this morning after waking up, I found my computer frozen, and was forced to at first restart which let me to a screen that told me Hardware Monitor found an error and to click F! to continue.. I was not able to get F1 to respond, and after trying a couple of times to turn off my computer manually, I was finally able to get to a screen where Chkdsk was checking for errors.. it seemed to fix them, finding several minor errors and even an error in a gif file. Can someone tell me if there is something I can do to fix the problem or if chkdsk corrected the errors, and is everything ok now??? :) sure hope so! Appreciate any response, thanks Rainy.. What problems ( or whatever they're called) do you know of that I should consider re: upgrading to the Vista OS? I'm running Office & Windows XP, Outlook Express is my newsreader. Occasionally it is leaving out the ">>" that it is supposed to insert before the text of the message to which I am replying. My inclination is to buy a new machine and be done with it.     - Missing dll files in Temp folder Windows XP SP2 - 1 user account and 1 admin account The user account was infected on 2 April, probably with virtumonde. Between Norton and SpyBot it seems to have been fixed. In the course of working the problem, I manually deleted numerous files from various temporary folders, especially exe and dll files modified at the time of infection. Now when I log on to that account, I get three small pop-up windows alerting me that files C:\Docume~1\Barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\hgGyWOFu.dll C:\Docume~1\Barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\Yjgldenv.dll C:\Docume~1\Barry\LOCALS~1\Temp\awtutUNh.dll could not be found.     - XP Installation problems- please help! I have a laptop which was runnning Windows 2000 and I'm trying to install Windows XP on it. I did manage to get it on but I must have made some mistake somewhere as on startup it was giving me the option to boot into either XP or Windows 2000. Before explaining the current status I should just explain exactly what I'd like to acheive ideally. One hard drive (C) with the full amount of storage space (10GB) running Windows XP. That's it! Nothing more, nothing less. So I have tried to do a few things- deleting partition, re-installing XP and now I'm really confused! When I startup now, I get 3 choices from the boot screen: Windows XP Home Edition Windows 2000 Professional Windows XP Setup If I select Windows XP Home Edition it says: Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. COuld not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documemntation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information. If I select Windows 2000 Professional it gets me into Windows 2000. If I go to Computer Management>Disk Management there it reads: C: 5GB FAT32 - Primary Partition Unallocated 4.36GB Right-clicking on either of these doesn't give me an option to either delete or format. If I try Windows XP Home Edition Setup it says: Welcome to Setup To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER Insert the CD labeled Windows XP Home Edition CD ROM I then put in the disk and press enter. I then get the following screen: The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer 9586MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MPR] C: Partition1 (VAIONOTE) [FAT32] 5122MB 979MB free Unpartioned space 4463MB If I press 'D' on C, it says: Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the slected partition. This partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation. 'D' doesn't work on the unpartitioned space. If try to set up on C, it says: The partition you have chosen is too full to contain Windows XP which requires a drive with at least 1033MB of free disk space. I also have the following options: To repair a Windows XP intallation using Recovery Console, press R To quite Setup without installing Windows XP press F3 So, what do I do????!!!
