No, printers do not recommend any such formats. The issue is having a
program installed that recognizes such formats--for example, Adobe
Reader for a pdf file, Paint for a jpg file, etc. You need to open the
file in a program that understands it, and *then* you can print the
file from that program.
So the question to Pat is what file format (extension) did your friend
send the scanned item in.
