    - Find Error on Folder When Double Click on it Hello friends, one of my clients had an error this morning. when he double click any folder in any partition folder opening with find files and folders like when u open windows file search. Also when he plugin any flash disk, system asking him "Open With" to flash disk. Very strange. l couldnt find any solution to this problem. Can anyone help me ? thanks...     - Strange Error Message XPP on iMac via Parallels Too bad this newsgroup will not accept attachments. I just received the following error message when I tried to Quit XP Pro ------ "Smantec AntiVirus found a disk in he floppy drive. In order to decrease the risk of being infected with a boot sector virus, remove the floppy before you shut down the computer. LAPTOP USERS: If a floppy drive was disconnected from your laptop, reconnect it, remove any floppy, and select OK". -------- I am using a 2.4 GHz iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo running XP Pro under Parallels and there is no floppy drive.     - Uncontrollable Mouse I have a Dell Laptop with Windows XP-PRO installed. Every so often, the mouse seems to have a mind of its own and moves uncontrollable up and down and across the screen. This will last for about 1-2 minutes at a time and then goes back to normal. This happens whether I using the touch pad mouse on the laptop or if I connect an external mouse.     - Bad HDD or bad 'file data' Further to a recent posting where I reported what I thought was a bad HDD I'm now having second thoughts. The problem arises whenever I try to backup C:\ to Acronis software or indeed whenever I tried to copy all of C:\ drive to another drive - the process would freeze part way through and the only way to recover was to re-boot. Today I thought I'd run the Checkdisk routine from Win XP Tools. This breaks the process down into 5 steps. The first 3 steps ran through OK but the system froze at the 4th stage of the process where the 'file data' is being checked. Can anyone throw light on this for me and perhaps suggest how I may correct the problem without re-loading OS and data from scratch. Tag: Power Management Tag: 314191

    - Win Zipping I have a few very large files I want to send via email as a WinZip file. I want to be able to send the large files but do it in a way that for sending via email the file is compressed into a small one but upon the recipient receiving the email file, the unzipping will bring the files original sizes back.     - File association doesn't work I have Windows XP Professional and recently discovered that the file association of CAD .dwg files are no longer associated with inVisio my .dwg drawing viewer. The association worked previously. I then went to microsoft explorer and the Tools/folder Options/File Types menu and found that they were associated with Internet Explorer. After removing that association, I then restored the association to open the .dwg files with inVisio my drawing viewer program. The association is shown correctly under the Registered File types. When I click on the dwg extension in the list it correctly states that the dwg file opens with inVisio. However, when I click on a .dwg file, inVisio opens but states that it can not find the file. But, when I open the same file from within invisio it opens properly. I have an internal web site that requires the use of invisio to display .dwg files and they are no longer being displayed.     - wmiprvse.exe using 100% PC processes. How do I make it stop? What's the deal with wmiprvse.exe, all of a sudden, using the entire of my client's CPU processes? The only configuration change made was an install of MS Project 2007 Trial Edition. It really seems to hang up while in Outlook 2003. I read one thread that it is a virus, yet I know it is not... and I applied for hotfix that randomly applied to this, and it did not fix the problem.     - Yikes! How do I restore a folder ? Yikes! I was hunting for room on my laptop and used XP Add or Delete Programs to delete an application but the sub-directory went too. I just noticed and it was some time ago - I can't remember the date, so System restore doesn't look as if it'll work. I'd like to get the subdirectory back if possible - any suggestions ? A long long long long time ago Norton had some software that found deleted files and you could tell from portions of the names which one would restore - is anything like that around today? Thanks !     - USB Drivers? I'm not able to use a pen drive with my PC. when i connect a pendrive, the new hardware installtion wizard starts.     - Disk Cleanup Not Compressing Old Files? Hi: When I run Disk Cleanup I have a check beside both Compress Old Files (1,919 KB) and WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files (32KB) and it does not hang up but runs to completion. However, when I run it again immediately afterwards it identifies the same files as if nothing is happening. Not compressing or deleting any files. I an running this on a Sony desktop with MCE2005 SP2 and I also have the same problem on a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. This is the first time that I have noticed this happening and on both computers. I am sure that I used to end up with 0KB after running Disk Cleanup, but no apparently no longer.     - Debugger Hello, I have a WIN XP Pro machine that I recently purchased. I noticed that whenever I try to open a PDF file or a webpage by clicking a link (about 50% of the time) I get a window that pops up called "Just-In-Time-Debugging".     - Locked Out! Despite Having The Right Password! Help! All of a sudden I can no longer login to my Admin account. I get an error message to the effect that account have been locked out due to 3 unsuccessful attempts. Several hours later I try again and I was able to get in except that I got another message to the effect that the security log is full. I emptied the security log and created another admin account.     - Not being allowed to save to CD XP Home SP2 Word 2000 I can save to hard disc but cannot save to CD/rewriter when I check Computer it is saying You do not have permission to save in the directory See administrator to obtain permission. I am the only one with an accout on here. I cannot see how I can give myself permission. When I checked another disc using "Computer" it shows disc as 540 mg 0 free space even with a few items, I had this a little while ago and had to change the data on disc to another disc.     - Slow IE Win XP SP2 IE7 How can I get IE7 to boot up quicker. As now it takes several attempts, 6 or 7 perhaps, before I can log on. I have checked the network settings and options, finding nothing out of ordinary. I'm on broadband and have reinstalled my broadband modem and my Cox service. Nothing seems to work.     - continues to reboot Running windows xp home with service pack 2. When windows boots it will come all the way to my desktop and show the complete desktop and after about 5 seconds or so, it will reboot. Was wondering if it was my power supply, but I can boot to safe mode and it does not reboot. Ran chkdsk /r from CD and it said it found and repaired one error. Problem persists.     - "Has lines" and "Lines at root" (in the treeview control's style) don't agree with each other ... Hi, I am reposting the following problem because I find a new clue that may lead a solution. In the simple code below, I create a treeview control which has "A" and "B" on its 1st level. Each of "A" and "B" has a child, "A's child" and "B's child" respectively. The problem is that "A's child" always shows an image as its parent "A" even though I specify I_IMAGECALLBACK for "A's child", meaning no image at all. The problem exists only if I specify "Has lines" and "Lines at root" at the same time for the tree control style. I try many other combinations (including "has buttons") and all works fine. I try both VS 2005 and 6.0 and both have the same behavior. Is it a MFC limitation that if you want "Has lines" and "Lines at root" both, then you has to specify images for all items? Please help me because I have been wrestling with this supposed to be simple stuff for several days. Any help is much appreciated.     - Differences between installations of XP? I have a new computer, a home built with XP SP2 Home edition. My daughter has a new Dell with XP SP2 Home Edition. On her computer when I do a right click on "My computer" and select properties, most of the tabs that I see on my computer aren't there. Why? Any ideas? Also, on mine, when I do "Ctrl+alt+del", task manager pops up. On hers, I get the log-in screen with a button for task manager. I remember once seeing an option for what happens when you do "Ctrl+alt+del" but I'll be danged if I can find it. Help! I did search the knowledge base but didn't find any help.     - Problems with XP and dotnetfx ! HELP 1 Hello all ! I have a computer that only i myself use. There is only one user, no other. Since the day I had it, everytime I turn the machine on, after it boots and all that, it goes straight to the XP desktop for me. Just the other day, I downloaded the doenetfx thingys from microsoft website, and installed all 3 of them. Then this happens - Now, after my computer boots, it goes through the same motion, but then it stops at the "Click on your username" screen. I find this totally ridiculous. I am the only one user, and on that "Click on your username" screen, there is ONLY ONE USER there, yours truly. Since I am really really lazy, and hate to do that really asinine extra click, ladies and gentlemen, here's my question to all of you: Is there a way to get rid of that "Click on your username" screen?     - Converting only one drive? I have two small Hard drives in my computer. I would like to know if I can convert one Hd "C" to NTFS from Fat 32 and leave the other HD "D" with Fat 32, as it is only a 8G. I am trying to avoid screwing my computer again but I would like to be able to use the feature of "Sharring Folder" I ask this question as I would like to use the function of "Sharring Folders" but understand that it is only available with NTFS and not Fat 32.     - CPU information I went into BIOS and clicked on CPU info and there were 2 options, the first one was Hyper-Threading and that was Disabled. The second option was CPU speed and that was Normal. Under CPU speed there are two options, Normal and Compatible. My CPU speed is Normal, but is Compatible an option that would make my PC run faster? If so, what is the draw back of using Compatible?     - BIOS - COULD THERE A PROBLEM WITH MY PC'S BIOS? Hi! I understand from the many posts in in the forums, that the BIOS should absolutely not be touched unless there is a problem. I have posted two questions in under a couple of groups- one about back ups and one about formatting PC and installing Windows XP Home but still have lots of questions because I have been finding obstacles at every step I have taken until now. In short, I have a computer that is running extremely slowly and I am trying to "FIX" with the help of the help articles I can find and the help of the experts in these forum. My first question is how do I know if there IS OR NOT a problem with the BIOS? What are the simptoms of a sick BIOS? Also, do I have to do anything at all in the BIOS when I format one of the two internal hard drives on my PC? I am preparing and planning to format the d drive which is the boot drive and which also happens to have been added to my PC to try to solve its slowness. The c drive is the original drive and that is the system drive. I am sorry if there is not enough info here to enable you to help me but I am just not sure what is needed, so please, if you are willing to help me with my questions please let me know what info you need and I shall do my very best to gather it and supply it. I have basic knowledge and normaly require step by step help. Since my first post a few weeks ago, I have learnt a lot and I continue to do so by looking into other posts and websites provided in them as well as by other means. The only difference is that the folder is identified at the top: â??Local Disk (C:)â??. When my wife logs on, the System 32 folder does not appear.     - Script Error How comes that my computer "all of a sudden" is coming up with numeros errormessages that tells me there is a scripterror.... pointing then to a spec. line on the website i`m on.... -problem is that when this started, 3 days ago, it first "popped" up on a site i do use very much,and there has never been any errors before...... in addition it`s never the same place it`s pointed to-even if i opens the same site 2 times-in a row....     - runtime errors I'am using windows xp home edition.Whenever I want to log onto the internet,my home page comes up but then an error message pops up saying:Runtime Error! This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application support team for more information.Can anyone shed some light on whats happening.     - Disc/Backup Problem I'm using Acronis as my backup software for a WinXP Prof system, but cannot backup C:\ drive - it gets through about 35% and then seizes because of what apperars to be a disc fault of some kind.I've also tried using the WinXP disc 'Cleanup' with the same effect. My question is, and I'm probably missing something simple here, how can I backup/copy C:\ drive to another partition to enable me to re-format C:\ and then restore/copy data onto C:\ again to enable it to boot up without losing any data.     - Help - Internet Explorer Pop Up trouble Here is the background of this problem: Neighbor brought a Laptop, which has operation trouble. Laptop is loaded with XP Home Edition, with Service Pack 2. Although it has 1.50 Ghz processor, it is VERY SLOW in operation. It was still operating with IE6, with most of the updates. I was informed that this laptop was operating without any Anti-Virus program (!). Neighbor loaded the Avast antivirus software couple of weeks ago but seems like it was not able to clean all of the viruses (may be he or I don't know how to operate it). I am used to with AVG, so I loaded it and it found nearly 50 Trojan Horses, and cleaned them. Next I loaded Spybot and found about 20 different types of spywares. I also loaded Ad-Aware and cleaned bundle of other advertisement programs. As the cleaning went on, I am having the worst time to clean up the Browser Modifiers. I have loaded Microsoft Windows Defender, and it did clean up 'Win32/Fotomoto', but seems like the same pop-up program revives somehow and I am still getting Pop-Up problems. There is an 'Unknown' pop-up showing up at the listing of Windows Defender. May be that is causing the pop-up now. Question: How do I get rid of this Pop-Up trouble from IE7 Explorer? From time to time Windows XP Professional seems to forget to turn off the
monitor. If I open power management, change the setting "apply it" and then
change it back to where it was it works (for awhile at least).

What, if anything, can be done to get a more consistent behavior?
