I just set up another computer on my home network and from it I can't see
any of my other computers.
I am running XP pro on this newly setup computer and am wondering what have
I missed. My other computers all are able to see each other but not this
one.

When I select 'my network places' - I see nothing. And it takes some time
before it tells me that maybe I don't have permissions or something like
that?

And when I select 'View Workgroup Computers' - I also see nothing.

I have set up the workgroup the same as my other computers. I just don't
know where else to look.

Anyone please..

Verify that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled. Make sure that firewalls
are not preventing access to other machines.

Thanks John for the response and attached supporting material.
I enabled netBIOS over TCP/IP and checked my firewall and all is ok. But,
all I see now when I select 'my network places' is my router. At least
that is a step in the right direction but still not ok.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated..

Check that the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service is running. Can you ping
other machines from the new machine? Can other machines ping the new
one? Can you access other machines by entering the UNC path in the Run box:

\\Computer01\c$

Hidden Administrative Shares (c$) are not available on XP Home, for XP
home try:

\\computer01\ShareName

or by IP address:

\\192.168.xxx.xxx

While you troubleshoot this you may want to disconnect your network from
the internet and *disable* the firewall on the host and client machines,
firewalls are so often the cause of problems that completely removing
them from the picture is often the first step to successfully resolving
the problem.
