When starting an HP computer the subject dialog box opens with a big red X.
The text states: "an invalid parameter was passed to a service or function."
with a button to check OK. If one clicks on the OK, the computer restarts.

This occurs in safe mode also with this exception, a dialog box opens for a
user name and password.

Any thoughts?

Apparently a common sign of penetration by malware
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/lsassexe_system_error_every_time_i_boot_windows.html
which mentions a Microsoft repair tool.

Don,

Thanks for the response, I have used the HP PC Recovery process and it is up
and running. What I need now is an SP3 update that will not destroy the HP
with its AMD processor.

There is only one version of SP3. Use Jesper Johannson's intelppm.sys tool
first to make sure you don't have any issue.

Malke,

That worked like a charm! Thank you and Dr. Johansson!
