    - Need to hide a console window. I am running Win XP Pro SP2 v2002 on Dell Optiplex 745, 2GHz DCoreProc, 2GB RAM I have a Windows NT Command Script (startWebLogic.cmd / CMD File) which I have to have running in order to access certain web pages on my pc running through Weblogic. The target in the shortcut is currently, %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe /k"c:\...\startWebLogic.cmd" The CMD file opens in a standard windows console and remails open, closing the window terminates the application meaning I can not access the web pages. There is no need for me to ever not have this application open or view anything displayed in the window. I would like to add this file to the startup folder and have it run in the background and NOT display a window. I have the images folder, as documents as music folders to copy every week to my portable hard drive. Before windows, this task were fast and simple, with DOS comands, but i don't remember the comand to copy all files from D: to hard drive but only new files.     - Lost MIDI play function My computer stopped playing MIDI .mid files a couple of days ago and I can not figure out what is causing this problem. I can play .wav files and they sound okay. All the computer's sounds play as they should. When I open a MIDI file the player screen opens and looks normal. The progress slider moves along as it should, but there is no sound out of my speakers. I've not changed any hardware, nor have I installed any new software. Computer; Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, two 1GB memory sticks, a 500 GB Western Digital SATA hard drive with about 400 GB free. I'm running Windows XP Pro, SP2 with automatic updates. I also run MS Office 2007, Adobe Photo Shop, and some other rather ordinary software clients. I use Pizzicato's Arpege music software to compose and play music, but it won't play, now. Everything else seems to be working well. The Systray Vol. control seems to be working as it should.     - Troubleshooting was Re: Reinstaling XP It's me again and my apologies for yet another omission. I just renewed my Norton anti-virus subscription and closed the Norton window. After I closed it, I could, for about three or four seconds, see through the Norton window and see the browser's text and what not behind the Norton window. I could see the four blue bars that make up the window square itself. This happens maybe twice a month with Netscape or Firefox. Does that sound like memory problem? I downloaded it a few days ago and it's leaving today. I thought I'd try it before I reinstalled FF and Netscape and it's not the browser for me at all.     - Clock Resetting on Power Up I have a problem with the clock on my computer resetting on power up to 01 January 2002 00:00. This happens every time I start the computer and has a knock on effect to other applications. I am running a desktop with Windows XP Media Centre Edition. About four weeks ago I had a problem with pop-ups and advertisements on the computer. The clock then started to change time dramatically. As i thought I had a virus and restoring the system from a previous date would not work, I performed a system recovery. The issue with the pop-ups and advertisements has now been resolved but I was still having trouble with the clock. Then, about two weeks ago, it began to reset each time the computer was switched on. I looked up their US patent # 7043074 and they do have very interesting IP that applies to using image pairs, multiplets.     - question about xp d recovery drive i have xp home sp2 up to date hp pavillion. ive been having very slow and halting performance and heve had difficulties with some programs. ive done numerous anti-virus scans and malware scans with avg, defender, spybot, spysweeper, counterspy and have found nothing. my scan time over the past week or so went from 3:20 to 6 hours for a total scan of my entire computer. i have 71 gb of space on c drive of which 33% is used. i have 5.27 gb total space on my hp d recovery drive, with 85% used. one of my avg scans of my d drive caused spysweeper to quarantine a ps2 bug from d drive. now it seems to keep showing up during scans of d drive. is it normal to have so much of d recovery drive filled? it use to take only a few minutes to scan it now it takes an hour or more. thanks.     - What is "Reserved System Space" and what can I do with it? I'm running XP Pro, SP2. I recently did two things. First, I took a 250 GByte FAT external harddrive, backed it contents up to another drive and reformatted it as NTFS, then restored the contents. Second, I installed an incremental defrag program, Diskeeper, on my system. When I looked at the newly reformatted drive Diskeeper reports that over 10% is "Reserved System Space". This is an order of magnitude more than on any of my other 250 or 300 Gbyte drives, or even my one 500 Gbyte drive. Could this be an error in the defrag program? (The company says no.) If such a large chunk of the drive is reserved does that mean that it will never be used for my data? Is there any way to shrink this allocation? I hope this is the right place to ask this. Cyril N. Recently I had a problem with my home built PC. My hard disk (C) (Samsung
250GB PATA) would not load into Windows XP. I have now swapped my secondary
disk (Maxtor 80GB) so that windows can now boot up into XP. However, when I
check in "My Computer" the second disk is present, but when I double click
the drive it states "The disk in drive E is not formatted. Do you want to
format it now?"

I know that the disk was formatted as I have been using it as my main "C"
drive with loads of stuff on it. As usual I hadn't taken a back up.

Can anyone help me please?

Use the samsung test utility, avilable on their site, to create a bootable
floppy / cd, then test the drive
