I installed the printer onto both computers and tested successfully. So both drivers are working when its hooked up to the computer. I installed it on LPT1 on both.     - Can't find a simple setting I'm sorry to bother this group with a Win2000 question but I can't find an alternative. My printer prints in a font that is way too large for a "screen page" (email, web page, office document) to fit on an 8.5 x 11 paper and I just can't find the setting to reduce its size when printing. I have gone thru the Control Panel settings and played with every setting I thought could apply, with no luck. I have checked the printer documentation but found nothing there either.     - Transient problem after installing SP3 Just a note in case anyone runs into a similar problem. I installed SP3 from the 324MB download file on an XP Pro SP2 system with two users defined (one normal and one admin). After going through the recommended restart I tried to logon as the normal user. The system presented a popup stating that the user's profile could not be found. Sure enough, none of the user's customization (desktop, start up, etc) were there. As part of the online chat with MS support (using the admin account), I pressed ctl-alt-del twice and only the admin user appeared. However, when I switched to the normal user, all was back to normal. Going back to the admin account, ctl-alt-del twice showed both users. I rebooted again just to make sure everything was really OK.     - Brand new laptops/pc with xp pro -64 bit HELP! I recently pruchased 2 new laptops and 1 pc from Dell. For some reason when they arrived they have the Windows XP Professional -64 bit operating system. This operating system is not conducive to our network operation using various HP printers and our virus protection. Our computer tech has suggested reinstalling the 32 bit operating system to rectify the problem so that I can have use of the software, printers, etc. Dell has accommodated my situation by sending me the 32-bit o/s software to install. THIS IS MY QUESTION: When the software arrives (hopefully the US Mail will be kind and deliver tomorrow), how do I install the new o/s? I am pretty savvy when it comes to working on the computer (Externally not internally!); But I am not sure what to do when the software does arrive. I maybe jumping the gun before the software gets here and I read the instructions, but I would like to get some feedback before tomorrow so that I know what to expect. [I currently DO NOT have any programs that run off of a -64 bit o/s, this is why I want to revert back to the -32 bit o/s.] Once I install the -32 bit o/s, I WILL log back on and tell of my experience!     - Un-installed Program Remembers Previous Obsolete Installation Path ? Hello, I am having great difficulty re-installing Net Fusion Objects (NOF). Upon re-installation under an administration account it operates correctly. However in a Power User account it gives the known "Incorrect version of FSI.dll detected, please re-install" error and halts, and it recreates the first installation path and sets up a user profile there. The Power User account has full control permissions for the NOF folder. Re-installing does not work, and I have tried regsvr32 for the fsi.dll and related DLLs which returns error messages, installed SP3 in case any DLL updates were required, run sfc.exe ("scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions"), deleted remaining register entries for *netobj* (but not *msnetobj*), and deleted any documents and settings files/ folders related to *netobj*. How does NOF remember its first installation path and does anyone have ideas other than those mentioned on how to solve the fsi.dll problem ?     - How to Copy-paste from Internet Explorer to Word I used to be able to select a section from a website and paste it into Word. Today my computer started acting as though is was pasting but after an hour the computer was still locked up and had to be canceled.     - Monitor screen shaking I have WinXP SP3 on one machine and a 13" Proview monitor. When I boot it up in the morning and the manufacturer's logo appears, the monitor screen (the image) starts shaking, expanding and contracting. It lasts for a few seconds before the image stabilizes and everything becomes normal. If I reboot, no shaking at all. My guess is that in a morning cold monitor there is something that causes this sort of distortions, while in the warm monitor everything is OK. May someone please tell me what's going on?     - Cloning Western Digital Hard Drive Hi: I have a Sony desktop VGC-RA716G running Windows MCE (2005) with a 250 GB Western Digital hard drive model WDC WD2500BB. I am cloning this hard drive with an exact duplicate hard drive using Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools software version 11.2 Windows. I have cloned the master HD C;\ to the secondary slave HD F:\ twice and each time I get a notice that 3-4 insignificant files were not copied. One was a log file etc.and none appear applicable the problem I have with MS Word 2002 after each clone. Everything is fine with the exception of MS Word 2002 each time is corrupted when I try and open a .doc file. I uninstall Word 2002 and reinstall it and the cloned HD is fine. I wonder if there is something proprietary with Word 2002 that causes this each time? Just strange that the only problem that I have is Word 2002.     - windows explorer problem Hi Guys, I am a programmer and I never use the built in file browser of Windows (Total Commander rulez ;-)) But a colleauge of mine (non programmer) does use Windows Explorer, and sometimes it opens very slow for him. I have done some investigations, and this is what I have found: I have attached with windbg and whenever I hit break, explorer.exe was reading the registry. So I have downloaded regmon and produced a quick and a slow report. The main difference seems to be that in the slow case explorer.exe is reading values in the registry under the following path, around 20 thousands (20000) of times: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU I have no idea what this read does and how to fix this. I bet there is a checkbox and if I untick that then some functionality is turned off that causes this read to happen, I just do not know which setting to change. Does anyone have a suggestion?     - Read-only properties. REPOST FRON JULY 1. NO INTEREST? I'm using WinXP Home SP2. I ran across this problem while using an external hard drive. Windows Explorer has no problem moving data to the drive, but *some* programs refuse to write to it, suggesting that I check read-write status, authority, etc. I ASSUME that it's because the properties of the destination show a check in the Read-only box, albeit the check mark appears to be dimmed, and not solid black. It doesn't help if I remove the mark and apply the options in the following screen. Not only that, but the next time around the dim check-mark is back. Other programs don't object, and write to the drive as usual. (I did not experiment the same way with the internal hard drive, but I can't recall ever getting the same rejection except when it was clearly legitimate.)     - Creating a default user profile Hello everyone, after much searching I have figured out two methods for copying a profile into the default user profile. Method A) Create a custom default user profile 1. Log on to the computer as the administrator, and then create a local user account. 2. Log off as the administrator, and then log on to the computer through the local user account that you just created. Caution You will cause permissions issues if you create the custom user profile when you are logged on as the administrator. 3. Customize the profile appropriately. For example, install printers and map the drives that you need. 4. Log off as the local user, and then log back on as the administrator. 5. Because several of the files in the profile are hidden and must be copied to the new custom default user profile, turn on the Show hidden files and folders option. To do so, follow these steps: a. Double-click My Computer, click Tools, and then click Folder Options. b. On the View tab, under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK. 6. Replace the current default user profile with the customized default user profile. To do so, follow these steps: a. In Control Panel, double-click System. b. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab. c. Under User Profiles, click Settings. d. In the User Profiles dialog box, click the user profile that you just created, and then click Copy To. e. In the Copy To dialog box, under Copy profile to, click Browse, click the C:\Documents and Settings\Default User folder, and then click OK. Windows XP will now assign the custom default user profile to any new user who logs on to the computer. OR Method B) you can also copy the ntuser.dat file into the default user profile. Both of these method's work, just not the way I would like them to. They don't create the proper "my documents" structure. With method A, the my pictures and my music will be created, but it will keep the name of the orginal user account that was copied.. EX: under c:\documents and settings\jeff\my documents\original user's pictures instead of c:\documents and settings\jeff\my documents\my pictures and with method B there will be no directory structure under my documents. Has anyone encountered this? I would like to keep the behaviour of the default user profile the way it was before I copied the profile.     - Offline Folder Causing low disk space Hello All, Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. We are running offline synchronization on a few clients. Not everybody is having this issue, but couple of them are running out of disk space on the hard drive. When performing a disk cleanup, we see the most space used by Offline Folders. The folder is only 7 GB, but the offline folder in the disk cleanup is stating it is using 80 plus GB. I am guessing it is storing all the "Previous versions" of this folder.     - Transfering Files to a external Harddrive I've run into an intersting problem. I've got a Western Digital 120GB passport external harddrive. I currently has 30gb of open space and the the Recyle Bin is empty. I'm trying to transfer some large files (2 - 3 gb) from my Dell laptop (running xp pro - current updates) to the Passport. The problem I have run into is when I try and transfer a file that is 3.4gb - windows tells me there is no room on the Passport external drive.     - Dual Core CPU Affinity I am using an Intel core 2 duo processor. When I use the task manager to view the affinity of the number processes it appears that all have only CPU 0 Checked. Further, when I have two CPU intensive processes executing simultaneously there seems to be very little activity on CPU 1 and CPU 0 is fully saturated. I fear that there is some setting that enables the task scheduler use both CPUs that is not set correctly. What, if anything, can I do to get some sort load-balancing between the two processors?     - Updating a variable in the complete directory I have a directory were I need to change all documents from 2008 to 2009. This yearly variable could be in the file name and/or in the file itself. Currently we have someone go into all the files and update that yearly variable. Hi All, I have a large collection of DivX files which when displayed in
Explorer do not show any details in the "Duration" column. Similarly, no
thumbnails seem to be available for DIvX files. Is there a fix for this
problem? Similarly it seems to be the same for FLV files - all others
display perfectly well i.e. mpg, avi, wmv.
