    - why can't I see the printer from a workgroup Laptop on a domain PC? I have a laptop that is part of a Workgroup. I have a PC that belongs to my domain. I have a printer shared on the PC. The laptop can't see the printer on the PC. Other PCs can see the printer on the PC. The laptop can see printers on other PCs on the domain, but not the printer on this PC. If I use the wizard to add a printer and type in the path \\PC\Printer, I'm prompoted for a use name and password. I've tried entering my domain admin password and it tmes out saying it can't connect. I turned off the Firewall on both the PC and the laptop. Still no luck. In the wizard it will show me the domain and let me drill to the PC, but it won't let me drill into the PC to see the printer. I drilled into another PC on the domain and could see the printer, and was able to connect to the printer just fine. Didn't prompt me for a password or anything. I also enabled the Guest account on the PC thinking that might help, but no luck. I'm out of ideas. Can someone help me out?     - hibernate failing I have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop. recently re-installed OS due to hard disk problems. worked much better. I then added 2 GB of memory - upgrading from 500MB. when I try to hibernate - it fails reporting that there are not enough system resources to perform hibernate function .... When it 1st booted after installing new memory, it detected the new added memory... how do I fix so hibernate works??? weird!     - Scams I need the help of you knowledgeable people to help me redress a scam problem suffered by my son. He paid about $200 into one of the US firms for a WorkAtHome program several weeks ago. For all he has tried with them, they only pracrise avoidance to acknowledge that he is not getting the reqd training materials they had promised him.     - System delay after replacing CMOS battery This morning I was called to make a House Call for a computer member. It was explained to me that he had been receiving some vague messages. He had decided that it needed a new CMOS battery. On the way to the store he dropped the battery that he had removed down along side the transmission housing. So he simply guessed as to the replacement. When he had installed it, the computer wouldn't boot. That's when I was called. After attempting to start it, I very carefully explained that I would take it to our hardware guru and that it appeared to be a power supply. This explanation took several minutes, and Whoa! It started to boot up. Found some sort of error, and I pressed on. The system booted up correctly. WinXP SP2. After resetting the system clock all was normal. Is this kind of a delay normal?     - Getting Burn Error I am trying to back up some files and this is the error I am getting.. I am hoping someone in the group with more expertise than I have can tell me how to deal with this.. I noticed as I was reading the error that it says I had CD-R/RW media and I did not.. I had CD-R only. I have thrown away 4 CD-R's and would appreciate some help.. any help would be great.. I had changed the configuration for 'netnews' to the comcast.net settings and cannot get access to those groups with a message that the server could not be accessed.     - A Few Group Policy Questions Hi everyone, I have an XP Pro SP2 machine that will be shared by several family members and I have a few questions about Group Policies. Active Directory is not involved here. In the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) I want to turn off IE's prompt to download ActiveX Controls. The setting for this is at: User Configuration Administrative Templates Windows Components Internet Explorer Security Features Restrict ActiveX Install Internet Explorer Process = Enabled After setting this policy I log off and then log back on but IE still prompts me to download ActiveX controls (Acrobate Reader, for example). It seems the GP setting is not taking affect. Any ideas why? A follow up question is this: My understanding is that, contrary to the name, "User Configuration" policies apply to *all* users, not individual users. So, setting the poilicy for one user account affects *all* accounts on the machine. If this is true, why does the Group Policy editor have separate sections for "User Configuration" and "System Configuration"? Perhaps it *is* possible to specify separate policies for different accounts. This is ultimately what I want to do. I have an idea on how to do this (by copying .pol files and invoking gpupdate.exe) but the fact that ActiveX installations cannot be turned off is stopping me dead in my tracks.     - Limit Alt+Tab display to one icon for each application in use I use the alt+tab to toggle between applications but find it tedious when the display of documents gets to more than about six. This happens when I have multiple documents from any given program open and each is displayed.     - wrong & missing info-plez help Sorry if I posted here too. But no one was able to help.... I just got a new CD and wanted to rip the 14 tracks to my desktop pc, using WMP11. When the CD was inserted, i was surprised to see that it said unknown album/artist. I restarted the pc and started over again and this time, it listed all 14 tracks but the songs were 50% wrong in name. One song was listed 4 times (one of those misspelled), meaning some song titles were not even there. But nonetheless, it showed 14 tracks. I then got on my laptop. It did the same thing. My kid told me she wanted to try Itunes and it was shown fine there; songs in order with the correct name once and not 4 times. I have an old compter an e-machines which is running windows ME. I love my old computer and the preloaded programs like microsoft works. I am giving my old computer to my roomate. the WindowsXP (Pro).

However on this PC (also running WindowsXP Pro) it doesnt.

Also no password is required on this PC either (Yikes!)

What's going? And how can I make this PC work the same as my other PC.
