I have a reoccuring serious system error and a friend recommended
reinstalling Windows over the old installation. Then, if that doesn't work,
he says to uninsall the old installation and reinstall Windows.

The only problem is that I can't find my old CD. Is there any chance that
there's a way to download Windows online as long as I'm a valid Windows user?
Any other suggestions?

I tried the help site, but I get a little overwhelmed with all of the
information there.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No.

Yes. Tell us the problem you are trying to resolve so we might give you
alternatives to your 'friends' advice.

Depends on the problem, but in my view, to "uninsall the old
installation and reinstall Windows" is hardly ever the right thing to
do.

Tell us what your problem is and it's likely that someone here can
help, and that the draconian solution of clean-installing Windows
won't be necessary.

No.

If yours is a retail copy of Windows, contact Microsoft. If it's an
OEM copy, contact your OEM vendor.

Further to the good answers you've already had, do you have a friend with a
Windows disk? You can use that with your existing licence number. (The copy
has to be the same version, i.e., if yours is OEM, then it must be OEM,
etc.)

Hello

First it is not possible to download the Windows XP from micriosoft website.
But yes you can download recovery cds for your computer if you have an HP
computer. If you have dell and lost the cd,s call up dell at 1888-560-8324
and they wills end you the recovery cds fee of cost.

It all depends on your computer manufacturer, there is sure someway to run
the recovery on the computer. But tell me firts what exactly the issue with
the computer ?? may be there is some way to recover from problem without any
reinstallation.
